1960 was the last year for the 36hp in the USA. Any type 1 engine will fit with a little clearance work for the larger flywheel. The gearing in a split case 56 trans will be way too low for a 1500-1600 based engine. |

I put a 1961 stale air 40 horse in my '54...fit was a little tighter and the fire wall had to be cut a little for the top of the heater tubes to wiggle in...

For future reference, remove the heat exchangers before fitting the motor, then reinstall them. No cutting required. People running 40hp and later motors might notice the front tin fits higher on that part of the body than the 36hp does. I've seen some people go so far as to remove that piece of metal and replace it with the later style which is reshaped to fit the taller front tin. |

The gearing in The split case is not that bad for a 1500 or 1600, a 40 hp gearbox is worse, since it run om higher rews. But The split case dont handle much extra power before breakdown. _________________ I got a historic car, every scratch got a history...

...ran a stale air 40 horse in a '50 11G with full crash box for a decade and the guy after me for another decade, until he put another 25 horse back in. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD
