This past weekend I got my 74 thing. It's in a much worse condition than I though but it's still a cool car that I'm willing to hold on to.

I was tinkering around with it today just seeing some of the bigger needs on it.

Need some help identifying some of these parts. And which jack is for the Thing?

Look like a good solid start.

Those appear to be the locks for the rear seats as well as the cross braces for the seat bottom.

These run down the center beam to protect lines going to the rear of the car

Jack on right is correct and you have a windshield cover for when the windsield is folded down and the bag is for the side curtains.

I'm guessing you don't have any heating being channeled forward,

First two items cover and protect the paper tubes that channel hot air from under the back seat to the plenum mounted on the forward part of the tunnel. They mount on either side of the tunnel near the back.

4th item is also part of the heating system. It also protects and covers those paper heater hoses. They protect the forward part of the hoses. They mount right at the forward plenum. You appear to be missing one (driver's side?) or is it still in the car?

3rd item is the cover for your main electrical harness. Mounts on the forward passenger side of the tunnel

These are rear seat components

The "U" shaped bars are rests for your seat backs when they are in the down position. Should be mounted on the rear seat crossbar.

Straight wires go under the rear seat bottom. There are 2 types of wires under there, "Zig-Zags and straight ones. There should be 12 Zig-zags and 14 straight ones. Most likely missing ones over the battery to facilitate removal.

This is what the heating setup looks like

No paper tubes going forward Sad

But most of the parts are there and I am missing the one for the forward plenum that you speak of.

I also found some odd shaped cardboard but I think I found out that they go up front under the dash for the defroster?

On a side note, can I use a beetle front beam but transfer my spindles and all for the correct height or is that a no-no? My front beam is kind of non existent lol.

Funky cardboard stuff is probably #19325/326 in above diagram...

Bug beam will work, just swap over your trailing arms and spindles..
It'll be slightly less robust vote the Thing beam, but sounds like Any solid beam will be better than your current one!! Lol
