Is you car a '66 that was converted to 12 volts at some point and then someone replaced the battery with the wrong one?
Are your light bulbs are 12 volts also? _________________ Jesucristo es mi Seņor y Salvador! |

all the bulbs were 12v and they were all dim so i replaced them with the 6v (i only replaced them with the 6 because the relays say 6v on them) and the 6v lights work great but get hot real fast. the car is a 66' but i am unsure if its been converted to 12v, if its been converted to 12v wouldnt a 12v battery blow my 6v relays?? i have to replace my 9-prong relay anyways should i get a 12 and a 12v dimmer relay? |

Blown bulbs in 3....2....1....
If the Battery, gen, coil and regulator and bulbs are all 12 volt, your car is 12 volt, simple.
Its probably still got a 6 volt starter which is why its starting with a 6 volt battery but you are lucky the gen hasnt cooked that battery putting 12 volts into it.
Your dull lights would just be the typical bad grounds.
THe old 6 volt relays will work for a while on 12 volts, but ideally should be replaced with 12 volt ones. _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?

You can run a 6 volt wiper with 12 volts, BUT you need either a current limiter device or voltage divider resistor in line with the wiper motor to prevent it from burning up on 12 volts. See if there is some device attached to the wiper's wires. the wiper motor should be labeled 12 or 6 volt, but it may not be visible when motor is installed.
Never run a 6 volt wiper on 12 volts without the add on resistor or current limiting device in line.
you may also have a 12 volt wiper installed when the car was converted.
I have run a 6 volt wiper on 12 v (using a current limiter device) for over 30 years in my Bug. _________________ Help Prevent VW Engine Fires, see this link.....Engine safety wire information

The 6 volt wiper motors wont burn out on 12 volts but they do run that fast that the blades barely touch the glass and they dont turn off as the brake contacts can't work.
The old trick here in Aus was a coil ballast resistor to drop it back to 9 volts, faster than normal 6 volt but still slow enough that they turn off correctly and wipe the glass properly. _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?

ok so i got the 12v headlight relay and the 12v turn relay put in today and now my turns dont work at at all and my headlights are stuck on high-beam.
my emergency flashers dont work at all.
and finally my brake lights are not working anymore either.
i still have the 6v battery in it as well would that be the problem? or
is the turn stalk switch supposed to be 12v too??
or the brake light box?? |

Another way is the 4-component current limiter on my site. With a little experimentation with the resistor values you can even get it to run two-speed.
