Hey All,
I'm new to Vanagons but have been playing with VWs since I was a kid. I've been lurking for a while and have read every thread I could find on the Subaru 2.5 swap.
I'm about to start converting my 86 Syncro to a Subaru 2.5 SOHC engine. The engine I'm looking at is a 2008 Subaru Forester engine. This has the drive by wire and variable valve timing. It looks like a good choice based on the chart at smallcar.com here.
I'll be getting the engine, ECU, uncut harness, airbox with mass air, and the gas pedal.
Can someone with more knowledge than me verify that this will work? The FAQ regarding Subaru engines doesn't seem to be up to date on the newer engines.
Thanks,
Patrick Brown

Should work. Dont get your confusion. I have an 07 forester 2.5 in mine. Call small car and varify. |

Is there anything in particular you are worried about or is it just general fear of the unknown before you jump off? _________________ If happiness is being a mechanic, owning a Vanagon is nirvana.

I just didn't want to go buy this engine only to find out it wouldn't work.
Thanks,
