So, it's not really a "Survivor". I talked to the 2nd owner. He bought it in 1970. In the 90's some time he spent like $3800 on it to have it "refurbished". Sprayed, seats reupholstered, door panels, headliner, carpet. He didn't say, but given it's condition it looks as though they may have replaced the fuel tank as well. However, they did nothing to the engine. |
I don't think anyone has defined the description "survivor." If you consider it a survivor then survivor it is.
I consider my Ghia a survivor but it has front seat covers, replaced interior door panels and one repaint...plenty of incorrect parts but retains a lot of original character. _________________ John.

Hi
Could you post a picture of your fuel tank, mine is only months younger than yours and I'm wondering if I have the correct shape
Thanks, Angus |

Survivor?
This is along the same lines as the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC having on display 'the original hatchet that George Washington used to cut down the famous cherry tree'.
The hatchet has had 1 hatchet head & 3 hatchet handle replacements occur to it since George used it, but it's the original hatchet...

I considered my 70 SS 396 chevelle a survivor. Interior was original but we repainted it and rebuilt the motor/trans a couple times. My idea of a survivor is a car that's been maintained some parts replaced a paint job or two maybe but not a body off restor or complete tear down at any point in its life.
I'd definitely say yours fits the bill. Nice find!
Now drive the snot out of it. _________________ 63 ghia coupe |

Here's the pics of the fuel tank and paint. The car was resprayed in the '90s and has little bubbles in it.
As requested here are pics of tank and paint line.
Is there a paint code for the white top? Is it the same white as on the wheels? |

Thanks for the photos, big help to me with my car.
The contrast colour for the L514 Emerald Green was a blue/white, coded L289. |

After replacing tie rod ends, steering damper, shocks, steering coupler, wheel bearings and seals, rear axle seals, axle boots, muffler, carburetor refurb, points, plugs, all things brake related, etc, car is running, steering and stopping pretty well. Also spent a fair amount of time cleaning. Already received an unsolicited offer of $8300 but don't think it's for sale.
Some recent pictures.

Wow...that's one beautiful car! It's great to see how nicely it spruced up with just some 'elbow grease' and common household cleaners. Good job, jdoug!
Keep an eye out for a correct dash top & grab handle...they'll finish off that gorgeous interior just perfectly. Your original dash top would've looked like the one in this '66:

Didn't know the dash pad was wrong.
This car looks to be good example of 63.

Beautiful car, nice colour combo. I think any ghia thats 40-50+ yrs old that hasnt made it to the recyclers yet, can be considered a survivor. Well done on finding it and bringing it back to life. |
