Got these images and article off the Vintage speed FB page. It's a write up about the Type 3 exhaust and Vintage Veedub's role in it coming to fruition. They are also my local aircooled experts so I'm often there making my contribution to the rent.

W1K1 - Did you notice any change in oil temps switching from OTT to this exhaust? I remember you and I both we're having some issues with a very similar motor/exhaust/full flow lines.
Reason I ask is there is a current thread in the Performance forum describing hot oil symptoms from full flow lines close to the header; which I have with OTT. Wondering if this exhaust would help? _________________ 69 Fastback Build

I haven't had it on a long highway run, but the sertrab cooler looks after the oil temp heat issue. I also have some oil line insulation wrap that i can use.
The head temp has dropped with the 1.1/2" VS the stock heat exchanger on the 1904cc with the better flow. _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

Good to know. My CHT temps were a bit high for my liking too. I'm ditching the OTT for this this exhaust when I move back. I'll live with a couple HP loss, if even, for the looks, fitment, and removal of the header that probably plagues my oil lines. _________________ 69 Fastback Build

Picked one of these up direct from Vintage Speed today at The Classic! Waiting for my car to cool down to install it. It's a very high quality looking piece, neat welds all around and a nice polish and a raised edge to the tip. The adjustable inlets should make installation a breeze, and ensure that the tip isn't resting on the apron. Super excited, and I normally hate doing exhaust work.
EDIT exhaust went on without a hitch, fits nice and sounds great. The tone at idle is much different than the over the top exhaust, less rumble to the vintage speed system. It is much quieter running, though. On the freeway I can't much hear the exhaust noise over the engine. Now, no more scraping in the rear with my car down two inner splines! I'm well pleased with it and would recommend it to others. _________________ 1967 Squareback |

Really impressed with the look and sound of these, looking at getting one of these for when I take my original exhaust off for some extensive patching and restoring. Do they do away with the primary heater boxes on top? Anything I need to look for when changing exhaust (bearing in mind I've never changed an exhaust on an aircooled VW before)? Anything need blocking off etc? Any other parts I'll need to buy to fit? _________________ 1971 Iberian Red UK Type 3 Fastback

I am very happy with my VS. Here are a couple of pictures showing the engine out and in the car. It tucks in really nice. The fit is great. I ran hoses directly from the fan to my heat exchangers but you can use the upper heater boxes. I used the ones from Spruce.
I also have a remote filter and running the lines was really simple and they don't really get too close to the exhaust. I might add some insulation wrap on the hoses for extra protection.

The Aircraft Spruce ducting is rated for 530 degrees I believe. Don't mess up your sweet looking engine wrapping them with anything! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Mike, the ducting from Spruce is good stuff. No issues there.
I meant the oil lines going to the remote filter. They run buy the exhaust and I will probably wrap some insulation around them for insurance. |

You forgot one of the cylinders.
Take it apart and start over....

Yeah...prices aren't "climbing". The single tip VS exhaust is still the same price. This new "Abarth" style exhaust is an iSP exclusive and is freaking awesome! It took all of my will power not to take it home with me last night... _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red
