I changed the thickness of the copper head gaskets and didn't take into account that the rocker geometry may change as well. I went from .060" copper head gaskets to .040" copper head gaskets. My question is can I correct my rocker geometry by adding shims under the rocker stands and still reuse my existing pushrods? I realize this has probably been covered here a bazillion times... Thanks for the advise.

.020 is a small difference. Only enough to matter if your pushrods were bordering on too long before.

Readjust lash and call it good. If geometry was done right like Modok said earlier, .020 mediation wont hurt nothin.

Jfats, When I went to just re-adjust the lash, I couldn't because there wasn't enough adjustment at the rocker cup. I added shims under the rocker blocks and was eventually able to get close. I just want peace of mind. I have too much wrapped up in this engine to have a failure of some sort because I cut a corner just to get it back up and running. Thanks for any more info. I'll let you know how much shim I added under the blocks here in a few. BTW I'm also running a set of 1.45:1 rockers. Thanks

Yep, it all hangs on whether the geometry was right before.

I understand. Worst case is a new set of mantons. But if the shims under the blocks work, get her up and running.

I'm confident the geometry was correct before. I did the whole process measuring for half lift with the dial indicator and the adjustable pushrod. I added .075" of shim on each rocker stand (all 4) to get the rockers to a point where I could properly adjust them. At this point I'm not real comfortable with the amount of threads sticking out of the adjusting nut. I've always stuck to the rule of thumb that there should be at least 1 1/2 to 2 threads showing outside of the jam nut.

.020 difference and didnt have enough room for adjustment? Gotta fix that, what happens when everything breaks in and starts to set and wear?
