Ok guys. Heres the deal. I wanna upgrade my daily driver. Its a 1970 Fastback. Its got a 1600DP with 34ict's, j tubes/header with a single quiet pack exhaust. Everything else is stock.

Heres what I'm thinking. Dual 40mm carb kit from CB Performance. Tri-Mil 1 3/8" over the top exhaust. Other than that, I'm kind of stumped. Maybe go and have someone rebuild it and put a better cam and new lifters in it? I don't know.

What would you guys suggest I do to it with a budget between $2000-$3000?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Dana

Well, I hate to be an old fuddy-duddy, but I am. Smile Save your money, and keep what you have. It sounds like a nice, practical setup. I went nuts on my Ghia, and enjoyed building it, but the speed limit is 55 here. And the cost, it embarrasses even me.

That said, with your setup, maybe go 1.40 rockers. The difference wont snap your neck, but you can feel the improvement.

For that kind of money, would suggest talking to a shop and bumping it up to a 1776 or 1914.

First, make sure your motor is in good enough condition to take some upgrades.
Then, upgrade your carbs to Weber 42 DCNF's. They are a MUCH better carburetor for a type 3 than the IDF. After that, 1.4:1 rockers with HD single valve springs and HD aluminium pushrods. This will make for a big improvement in power, drivability, and mileage.
Drive and enjoy that, in the meantime build up a 1915 longblock, and when it's ready transfer the carbs, rockers, tin, etc over to the new engine.

GTV's advice is best I like it. But be sure to put in a good counterweighted crankshaft! I think even the 74mm stroke 1800cc engine like I built would be plenty more power for a type 3. Don't forget to add an oil filter! Needs a full balance Job too!
