Hey guys need some info hope you can help me.I need to know if a 50's bug apart from the window heights /headlight housing on front fenders/decklid etc. has the same dimensional profile as a 70's bug.
i know over the years the windows got bigger ,but did the overall shape stay the same.

Ideal world i would 2 side by side to compare.Very broad question i know, but any input helps.thanks

The only input that leaps out at me is the fact that the roof stamping is swappable from a myriad of years. If you were to uncrimp your gutters- you can make your '77 look like a '47 with some work front and rear. This determines overall profile shape in my opinion. Same thing along the bottom with the swapability of running boards.

You're scaring me- just what contraption are you assembling- a Frankenbug? Am I going to hate myself for responding?

It shouldn't hurt- just curious what you're building. The first paragraph should really be the focus of my response, but nevertheless, I know you are on here a lot- so I don't view your question as naïve. Since the basic shape has changed so little- I'm left with the idea you are possibly investigating a dramatic swap of parts. I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering. If you are just seeking info you haven't found in a book- it may just be a matter of deduction after reading the progressive refinements to see if any angles have changed, etc..

I've never beat up on someone using, say, a 1967 body to save a 1960 bug- so one is still left to wonder. If the results are good- it will rise heads and shoulders above the ranks of contraption, but never Snorkelstang.
