I'm kinda confused. My March '55 oval's birth certificate came today and it states that my car was a US deluxe model. I thought US beetles came with bullets starting in 1955? Was this a mid year change? My car is equipped with semaphores... Thanks for any insight...

In searching I've found a thread about '55s that said bullets became an option in April of '55. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

Yes, it was a mid-year change. Your car is right at the end of the semaphore period for the US market. What you read is correct.

Thanks Darren! I had no idea there were a handful of '55 cars that actually had US style bumpers but still semaphore equipped! Thanks for the clarification!

I haven't taken the plunge on ordering a birth certificate for my March 55' beetle yet...but I'm curious, did your certificate specify if your car came equipped with "Ram Protection"? (bumper overiders) Thanks!

Don't you hate it when even the factory hasn't a clue how the cars were built? No way your car had dual cct brakes with a warning light. That's late 60s.

Totally agree. Instead of guessing what a mystery m-code is, I wish they'd just say unknown... Confused

Were 12 Volt Semaphores ever sold in cars from the factory?

Never.
The first time 12V was offered as an option was 62, but very few buyers went for it.
The last semaphores were installed 2 years before.

I was disappointed with the m-codes as listed on my certificate as well.
My early 54 car has a dealer or factory installed ram protection in the bumpers but no m-code. I think mine also stated the dual circuit brakes.
