I'm looking for a timing light to have in the garage (my current one has a flaky bulb after 17 years of use Sad

I'd like to have a "dial back" type for those cars without degree'd pulleys.

I'm not looking to spend Snap-On money, but don't mind spending extra for one that will last me another 17 years.

Can anyone give me any recommendations?

This one lasted just over a year, lost the receipt. It was under the hood for a while, though. The many function coolness suckered me in.

Thanks RacerDave. I may anti-up for the "professional" one though, for $20 more, it seems to be a much better value.

I have this one after my cheapy burned out. I havent had it long enough to say anything about longivity. One thing I do find annoying is that when switching from advance mode to reading the RPM, when you switch back to advance mode it doesnt remember that you were at 30 degrees, you have to hit the arrows to get it back again. Annoying, but it's nice to have that tach right there when making carb adjustments...

Matco for me... Has the advance adjustment (manual knob) ... which is a must for serious tuners..

If I bought again... Id consider one with dwell, rpm, advance adjustment built in..

That way I could just grab one tool.. and be done....

After using different lights, I finally went and bought
two Snap-On MT2261's. I was able to snag them up
at a local pawn shop for around $400.00. I know that's
expensive, but I used to do smog tests out here in Ca
and making sure timing was within specs was a big
deal to the results of the test, to the customer, and
to BAR who enjoyed sending me undercover rides
so they could bust me for not doing smog tests the
right way. One had to have something like a 2261
or 2261A.

You can find them on ebay some times at decent prices
or visit pawn shops and come across em. They are
VERY accurate and I've dropped one of mine a couple
of times and still work perfect. They are digital with
a reset button, a tach/advance button, a flash strobe
button, an increase and decrease button. They are
one of the best, if doing a lot of special timing tuning.

If just using once in a while though, that Sears heavy
duty linked above in another post would do fine, I
think.

One you find at a swap meet or garage sale. Have your car there to test it.

I've gone to eBay and gotten the older snap on lights m210 with built in advance for less than 25 dollars. You can still buy the bulbs and these old lights are tough.
