The brown beading around the edge is indeed factory.
I had to remove it to properly install the new Vinyl.
The Staples holding it to the Subfloor were for the most part rusted away from 28 years of accumulated moisture. I pulled out a lot of rusty bits!

Is it grey or Brown in color, I am referring the floor edge, near the Sliding Door.
Thanks for the Reply |

Very nice! I'm not wasting my effort on the interior until the kids get older... _________________ ________________________

After getting my refrigerator working on propane, I'm encouraged to get totally off the grid! I finally installed the solar I've had sitting on the desk...

Today I got my Van pressure washed, I was quit happy to see a clean chassis & engine bay.
Recently, I have been noticing TDI conversion Threads quite in no/- .
So, I thought of sharing some of my TDI(ALH) conversion pic which might be useful(before, 1.6 TD 5 speed, present 1.9 TDI 5 speed).

Dropped the front windshield wiper reservoir to check the pump. I think I found out why it wasn't working. Today I'll be replacing it.

Fixed a leaking vent tube (passenger side) from the fuel tank. It was ruptured on the short section of braided-cover fuel line just inside the frame rail. I was able to do this without dropping the gas tank, a job I was not looking forward to doing.
I've been having a fuel spew issue on fill ups recently, and not just out of the filler tube. Fuel will leak out of the vent tube on the passenger side. I could see the leak but not reach it easily and was expecting to have to drop the tank to fix it but decided to try one last time yesterday. I could see the frayed weaving on the vent hose where it clamped to the hard plastic line coming out to the vent tank, but not until I managed to remove the clamp could I see that the hose actually has a chunk missing out of the wall. That's a pretty big outlet for gas coming up the vent hose from the tank. That red wire is a hot lead to the relay for the dual Fiamme horns.
Working in that spot was difficult; had to reach inside the frame rail, working with a short stub of hose that had to be trimmed even shorter, and then the plastic line had to be reinserted. This rubber hose is slightly smaller diameter than the fuel line from the engine compartment.
Took about an hour total but I got it back together and the latest fill up shows no leak on that side, but now one has appeared on the driver's side. Great. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic

Well not today, but...
I finally broke down and pulled the inop LF power window motor. I found it was full of water, and both bushings were seized to the armature shaft. I worked them free, polished the shaft, and then lubed and sealed up the case with polyurethane. I also drilled the bottom bushing well, so any water that does make it into the case will drain out, instead of accumulating. Lubed up the cables and guides. Works great outside the van, but is still slow to operate when installed, even after cleaning the ground crowns last year. It's driving me crazy. My next step will be to pull the harness and door switches, and replace the whole mess with a new fabricated harness with MB switches mounted on the dash. _________________ Casey--

Have you tried putting power to the motor once installed, By passing the body harness all together. I am sure you know that the Red and black operate the windows and the circuit reverses when the wires are switched.
Did you bench test the motor for load before and after Re building it . I generally like to see the motor pull about 3 amps on the bench .

I hooked up power in both polarities while it was out, and the motor and assembly were operating at normal speeds. Once installed though, the speeds dropped considerably. Not sure if there's binding in the window sliders, but last year when I was tracking this down (prior to a windshield seal swap), I completely went through the ground crowns and got it to speed up, though not quite to my satisfaction. _________________ Casey--

So I finally replaced the horn that has not worked since we got the van. I hemmed and hawed over the air horn from either GW or Van-Cafe, the Hella two-tone, etc.
I put in an OEM stock horn because one of the main things I want to use it for is friendly acknowledgement rather than 'Hey Get Outta My Way!'

Nice thought, but as when on my motorcycle I want a lane intruder or inattentive car occupant (can't call those people drivers) to be shocked into awareness with a horn that sounds big, loud and urgent. Dual Fiammes are barely adequate in such circumstances but way better than stock. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

KONIs front and rear adjustable set at softest setting
Continental VANCO 185/R14 "C" load rated D, 102/100 max pressure 65psi
I found these through Discount Tires for $113 each, $50 rebate, and they hand tightened to 125 as prescribed in the tire thread, and my "Bently" knockoff factory repair manual. Thanks to all who contributed to the "tire thread" where I found a list of tires that fit and are rated to carry our heavy vans safely down the road. I was looking for the Yokhammas but these were available, so..it's new boots all around and on the spare, too.
The KONIs took a lot of the sway out of performing previously precarious cornering and maneuvering to maintain lane position while being passed by larger vehicles and faster traffic. The speedo is accurate now that the 205/70s are seeking a new home. My personally preferred setting on most things VW is stock anyway..
And now, I'm off to launch my next project..
I got the idea watching TV... |

Over the last three days:
1. New water pump installed (what a PITA job that is ).
2. New coolant hoses installed.
3. O-ring on coolant temp gauge sender replaced.
4. ATF cooler installed, eliminating the original coolant-based version:
Test drove it last night... no leaks!
BTW, if you need to use a vice and don't have a workbench:
