Has anyone replaced the torsion spring on the front hood with modern gas springs?

I've had some welding done the the car due to an accident, and they forgot to put the mounting points for the original hood springs back in. I was thinking a gas spring modification would be an easier and "cooler" way of doing it.

What's the benefit?

At both of my VW 411 the factory solution worked after 47 years very well. Very Happy

Here's the reason, not doing it to trying to improve on the orginal solution but simply cause I need to!
