|
|
I am working on switching back to a Type 4 engine in my 1974 bus from a Type 1 that a previous owner installed. I am pretty sure the input shaft is cut so I need a pilot bearing in the flywheel, but will measure to verify once I get into it.
My question is will a 215 Porsche Flywheel work with a 215 bus clutch and starter.
Thanks _________________ 1974 Type 2 Bus Westfalia, 1600 Dual Port |

Can't answer that, but it is easy to have a machine shop open the bore in the bus flywheel to accept a pilot bearing. You could also just find an unmodified input shaft and swap it in in a few minutes. |

This is a 5 minute job if the trans is out. Call Rancho Transmission or Richard Long and see if they have one for sale. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

i don't think the porsche flywheel will work. the ring gear will not engage the starter. _________________ SL |

yes, if its really a Porsche flywheel it should have a 5mm offset. It can be made to work but requires...IIRC machining or shimming of the bell housing ( cant remember which). In that case I think you are then screws for future flywheels that are normal. Ray |

I finally obtained an uncut input shaft. I've had a wtb ad on here for a while and searched regularly. Someone posted a bunch of them and I got one. Now I just need my case and crank back. _________________ 1974 Type 2 Bus Westfalia, 1600 Dual Port |
