I made mine out of plexiglas via the following:
Should you find yourself in need of some plexiglas cut to a specific dimension, you only need to remember this:
Leave the paper on it
Trace or draw your shape
Use a jig/scroll saw
medium speed
18-20 tooth per inch blade with a ZERO offset
Coarser blades, positive offset, or too much speed can cause melting or cracking.
Once completed, DO NOT pull off the paper. Sand the edges with 600, then 1000, then 1500, then 2000, then rouge to get that glassy edge. You can also melt the edge to get the shine, but try your technique of a scrap first, as you can actually ignite the plastic, much less the paper. OR you can do what I did and leave it well enough alone.
For the rivets I went to ebay and searched on "press rivets". Got several hundred of them for next to nothing.

As for the boards I had great success with scrubbing them with a toothbrush and some paint remover. Took all the paint out of the pressed pattern. They came up really well with some rattle can paint and the rechromed frames. Perfect _________________ 58Euro 23 343208 The Ultimate Zimblewinder Machine.

I sense a trend here-
I think I have an extra original visor. I'll look and see if I still have it. What do you consider a "reasonable" price?
Oh, and a warning about the plastic visors. The woman who bought my bus pictured here, ended up wrecking it and gashed the heck out of her forehead on the visor. Blood ALL over the place! _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

Do you need the whole assembly, or are you looking to replace just the hardboard? I may have just the board that I removed from one of those that I put plexiglass into. At the very worst, I could trace it and send you the tracing. |

figured I'd ask here,
Is there a way to fix the padded style visors from not staying "up" anymore. They no longer are firm against the chrome rod, and just fall down fairly easily.
Thanks. _________________ 1957 Beetle

Are the press rivets chrome? I couldn't find any on e-bay. Do the boards come out very easily, with out damage, once rivets are drilled? Need a special tool to press them? Thanks |

I just drilled mine out. Used 3/16" dark smoke plex, filed the edges so it would fit in the frame easier. I used small screws and nuts to secure it. Works good, now I can see when they are down. |
