Thinking of trying to save a few bucks and just mount the tires for my 15x4 smoothies myself. I am a little worried about safety though. Is this something that is DEFINITELY up for a pro or can/should I do it myself?
I'm not worried about hurting myself attempting it, I hurt myself 2-3 times before waking up in the morning. I'm worried about a tire falling off or blowing out in the long run. |

the manual tire mechanism you can get at harbor freight works pretty easy, and its about as safe as taking lugs off to change a tire

What size tires? I just put my old school 145's on 4.5" rims by had. If you have flexi sidewalls, its easy. I wouldn't try it on low profiles.
Lay the rim face down on a carpet or something soft. Spray silicone on the tire bead and just push on the first side by hand. Real easy. Second side requires two screwdrivers and a little muscle, but still not difficult. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far
