|
|
HI!
Does anyone have any information on the paint code L29? A chip or an actual name? I am trying to order paint for a my Beetle's gas tank plus some other miscellaneous parts inside and it seems this is the only paint code I've come across for the unusual blue/gray color used.
Parts painted in this color include:my original gas tank, the support arm behind the dash, the support arm for the armrest inside the passenger door, the two piece heater tube covers under the rear seat, and the inside of my glove box (with a beige flocking stuck into the paint).
Thanks... _________________ Kimberly

Is the L29 grey blue for early Beetle fuel tanks the same color as NOS metal pieces? I have some old stock heater channel pieces that look somewhat similar to the color I get on my computer screen, but it looks lighter than most pictures I see. I want to get it color matched but I'm not certain it's the same, can anybody who knows for sure chime in and help me? _________________ A few '56s, a '64, and some late model stuff. |

If your luck is like mine, you'll need a chip to get a match. I had a good local jobber mix up a batch based on the code only, and here is my comparison:
The blob they put in the cap looked very close, but the end product was noticeably lighter. _________________ Plate of shrimp |

Now as I mentioned, I do have a few old stock pieces of metal, is the grey/blue color they use here the same as L29?
I can take one of these with me to see how close we can get it matches. Also, the bottom plate is a little lighter than the heater channel piece itself. Any idea how close these might be? I'd say it would be good enough to paint, I just want a second opinion. _________________ A few '56s, a '64, and some late model stuff. |

Is there a paint code listed in that thread? I don't want to read through 7 pages |

Ok so I finished sanding out my tank tonight...... Sanding the clear down to get ready for the L29 blue grey.
I have hunted down the mix for Glasurit:
VOLKSWAGEN - L29 BLUE GREY
Glasurit Line 22
Target ltr kg
Base Amount Cumulative UNIT
M26 358.3 358.3 g
M60 290.3 648.6 g
M974 39.4 687.9 g

They also found out that you should have it mixed at about 80% gloss. I'll be taking all of this information to my local paint shop soon along with my NOS metal and see how close I can get something mixed up. _________________ A few '56s, a '64, and some late model stuff. |
