Sorry for the out-of-focus pic. The steering wheel is out-of-pic on the upper side, the steering box is at the bottom.
My car is a 1982 Puma.
The steering column goes through the firewall, then makes a dog-leg over the coupler and has a pair of smooth studs that go back towards the steering wheel, inserted into a pair of bushes in a flange on the shaft that continues on toward the steering box.
This looks like a collapsible-steering column mechanism to me.
Anyway, the bushes need replacing. Does anyone recognize this arrangement and if so what car is it from?
I have spent a fair bit of time looking at pics on the net but have not seen anything like this in VW. |

looks like some kind of quick steer adapter. Off road guys would add something like that for quick steering response. I have seen it as a bolt on part. It looks like the steering column pipe has a jog in it. They are usually straight to the rubber donut on the steering box. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |
