Sorry for the out-of-focus pic. The steering wheel is out-of-pic on the upper side, the steering box is at the bottom.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

My car is a 1982 Puma.

The steering column goes through the firewall, then makes a dog-leg over the coupler and has a pair of smooth studs that go back towards the steering wheel, inserted into a pair of bushes in a flange on the shaft that continues on toward the steering box.

This looks like a collapsible-steering column mechanism to me.

Anyway, the bushes need replacing. Does anyone recognize this arrangement and if so what car is it from?

I have spent a fair bit of time looking at pics on the net but have not seen anything like this in VW.

looks like some kind of quick steer adapter. Off road guys would add something like that for quick steering response. I have seen it as a bolt on part. It looks like the steering column pipe has a jog in it. They are usually straight to the rubber donut on the steering box.

Thankyou very much; have found the bush is part number

steering bush for T25, and 74-81 dasher and 80-92 vanagon.

Just sourced 4 from justkampers (two spare for the next time).
