Engine code H. Although I believe it's been rebuilt to a 1600.
Book says 0btdc... although I'm not sure why when the other codes are 7.5 or 10 btdc.
Regardless, I have this one set at 7.5...
Anything wrong with that? As it runs like crap at 0 |

It all depends on what distributor you are using for setting base timing.
What distributor do you have?
Some vacuum advance distributors have more than 40degrees total when checking with vacuum hose on. _________________ Joseph

When timing a compound (has both vacuum and mechanical advance) distributor, I remove the vacuum hose, plug the port on the carb, then use my advance timing light to set the timing to 30 degrees BTDC at 3,500 RPM. This ensures the advance won't go too high, and the base timing falls where it may.
Joseph (or anyone else), please let me know if you see an issue doing it this way.

Old point style vacuum advance.
Just using a timing light.
