|
|
around a a year and a half ago i recieved a phone call about a bus in the woods.
the guy said it had alot of windows but was full of stuff. so i called about it and the owner couldnt tell me much other than he had it for 20 years in a storage building and had recent pulled them out and set them in the woods back off the road...he said he wanted to sell.
so my wife and i drove the 62 singlecab 120 miles to go loo at this bus in the woods..turns out there two busses in the woods and he wanted to get rid of both busses just would not part with just one.
i asked how much and the tipical ""give me a offer popped out"".
i told him i didnt like to price other peoples stuff but he insisted so i popped off a price for the one as i wasnt interested in the other.
he told me no on the price so i told him that he ovious had a price in mind and he was waisting his time and my time..just pop out a number and im either going to say yes or no on it...he stood and did some thinking..and shot out a price for both..i said ill take them.
this is what we first look at the deluxe
more to come......
so we left to go home and i sat around thinking about those busses all day long..turned into all night long..and i told my wife.
we have to go back the next day..i wont get any sleep untill we do..so we loaded up in my wifes haundia and went back the next day...i paid him half the money to hold till that next weekend when we would have truck and trailer but we didnt leave empty handed..we loaded up the seats and a few loose pieces and dragged them home
we drive back home and i started digging bus wheels out of my stash pile and i found 4 matching '62 wheels so being i only had a week before i would go and grab the busses i started sand blasting wheels..and i started painting wheels..went up to the attic and got down 5 NOS Bias Ply Real Whitewalls i had been hording for 5 years
went back down with trailer and tires and grabed the 15 window first changed the tires..was pretty solid i had thought
rested up and went back down the next day on sunday to grab the other bus...it was a '64 camper with original side tent and poles..this one was straight till owner pushed it up into the woods with his tractor
Fast foward a year.......
3 weeks before Eureca Springs Arkansas show my wife decides the 15 window is the one we are going to take....i still have the brakes/brake lines to do..put together a motor/put motor in/run motor..change fluid on original transmission and hopes its good enuff to make it the 120 mile trip there from the house...so i told her that id get it going but she had to do her part..she's been doind custom seats now for some time for cust. cars and ours..so...she had to recover all the seats before we left
her seats turned out super nice
within two weeks i had my part done..and went to take it for its first drive...every gear shifted so smoothly...except 4'th gear..shifted in just fine but as soon as i let out on clutch...it popped out of gear...as john would say..i did not win the lotto with the original transmission....so we did not go to Eureca Springs last year because i could not find a small nut trans in time...
after eureca springs i found a trans within a week...got it all changed out and took it to Busses At The Brewery last oct. across town..wenter hit i a put it away in storage..pulled it out and started driving it..cleaned things up..finishes all the insulation on the inside found a few parts down in tenn. at Bugapuluza..and loaded up and went to Volks-Weston 2014 in Weston Missouri..what a fun time we had there..i took a bunch of pictures next to a old barn where we had camped at
since the trip ive changed out a couple of the broken windows with original Sigla Glass to match all the rest of the glass and i have installed a full length JOGR Stainless Racks...
getting ready for a 300 mile weekend trip in aug. _________________

Nice save on the 15 window. Weird somebody decided to paint the interior lime green but left the outside untouched (thankfully). _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Great save and great pics. I saw your bus at Volksweston I believe, it was parked at the bottom of the main road by the music, we weren't too far away with ours.
Nice work on the seats too! |

Bitchin' Bus. I like how it looks next to that Barn. I think the wheels look cool. Not a fan of whitewalls on anything but I'd certainly drive it.
Thanks for sharing. |

Very nice fine, crazy that it was so complete. Not sure I would use that felt as insulation, doesn't that stuff hold moisture? Kinda like putting a damp sponge on the inside of your bus. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

I've experimented and I'm a big fan of "B-Quiet™"...less expensive than Dyna Mat and a better product in my opinion. Self adhesive, great sound deadening, forms well to irregular surfaces, easy to trim... _________________ Looking for a correct 1967 rear seat

I don't think I would use that insulation either; You can use some of the foil covered bubble wrap and it will not absorb any moisture.
Your bus has an awesome look to it; perfert fade. _________________ WANTED:

I've seen this bus in person... very cool!
Patrick I have a nice set of TMI covers, door panels, rear panels and kick panels you can buy. So I can use a different paint sceme for my bus. _________________ Anthony
