|
|
I am helping my son build his first Beetle, right now it is being made with parts we have sitting around just to get him in the car and driving it. The car is a 69 and pretty much the shell is the only thing that is 69. I have a set of doors from a 67 but I don't have the outer door handles and I don't see anyone that has them listed on any vendor sites selling them. Are there any other year handle that will work or are they part of the curse of the 1 year only parts from that year Beetle?

For real? I have a January '66 with '67 handles.
I thought maybe one of the PO's lost their keys at some point and just replaced them with the 67 handles. If what you are saying is true, they would have had to replace the doors completely...? _________________ Yet another person with a '66 project: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=526418 |

No you dont.... you just think you do....
Yes for real....
Mid to late 1966 round push button and 1967 round push button outer door handles only look the same from the outside..
Entirely different mechanism is involved on the inside..
The "foot" of the handles point in opposite directions of each other.. and the mech is deeper on the 66 vs the 67..
NOT interchangeable..
Allow me to educate you...

And 65-66 doors are 2 years only.. (big windows and slider latch)
For the 1967 model year and beyond the early "slider" latch was changed to the "claw and pin striker" latch.
1967 doors wont directly work on a 1965 or 1966 body unless the striker is modified on the body.. to the newer style...
Just the facts...

Wow, I had no idea. I'll have to look at my spare handles. Maybe some of those "Good Deals" weren't so good after all. |
