|
|
Hey there, well took my engine down today to have it tore down. I am going to be needing some parts soon, not sure what but wanted to start the process of asking who I should talk to when I find out what I need.
Also what some of the fare price ranges I should expect to pay.
the Odometer shows a litlle over 23,000 miles, looking at the valves and everything it looks to be correct. Almost no wear at all on anything. The Fly wheel looks like the starter had gone bad, and wore down the teeth. That may be why it was parked, because it wouldn't start and no one ever thought to take out the engine. So if any of you all have extra parts let me know. Looks like I may need a Fly Wheel. I'll post another message in a week or so with what I should be needing.
Thanks

Hello Gary,
You don't need a new flywheel; just get the gear teeth replaced. Rimco can do this. I can't remember how much. |

I just had Rimco install a new ring gear on my 6v flywheel. Cost was about $75 If you can locate one that is in perfect shape, it would probably be more cost efficient. I've seen flywheels sell for about $10-$25 in the classifieds. But of course you have no idea what the condition of those are in.
Another tip. Buy the main bearings first. 36hp bearing are getting harder & more expensive to buy. If you can buy a set of bearings then have a machine shop cut your case & crank to match the bearing size you have. If you have the machine work done first, you may find it extremely difficult to find the exact bearings you'll need. _________________ 1947 Type 11a

Gene Berg website still lists 6 volt ring gears $39.78 , $69 for them to install , another $30 if you want them to balance it . TROY _________________ Pres. Rivercity VW Club www.rcvwclub.org
