We had fun. Yes you need to join us sometime. I'm hoping to go to Farmington if all works out. If not, I will be there next year.

Yep.. had fun at my first.....CYW.
I would have liked to stayed longer into Saturday eve .... but had prior commitments.
Even that.. .... I doubt I could do the whole 2 day thing....
CYW is a lot like Farmington....without the drag racing and track announcer screamin' in the background...
"Pro gas.... Pro Gas... let's getem' in th lane boys"...

Friendly PSA... to all ages...
Dont Drive under the influence of anything..
(including texting,distractions etc...)
Take that second to get your head out of your ass.... BEFORE....
If you know you will... ... or find yourself in a situation.. WAKE UP..... REALIZE IT... use or find a phone that everyone has attached to the hip these days and make that call.. no matter the time... no matter the place.... those who you call will appreciate and understand.
Tell your kids make that call...no questions to be asked at that time.. Stay where they are or get a secure and safe ride..
Not looking for grief or sorrow here...... just stating below.... merely for my sudden PSA background.
If you think it cant happen, or wont happen to you.... HA... think again.. You are so wrong..
My oldest and first Nephew Gary Daniel Stewart (I called him #1) had little fear in life... he definitely lived for his short time alive and... was the typical rebellious teen.....Coming from split parents, with limited parenting.. more "friendly" parenting, sure looking for attention .. got into trouble...became the "you take him" child for a time.. My parents (his Grandparents) stepped in ...UP... the last couple of years ... gave him a dry rental house, some money... most of all support and help ... I stepped in and helped him land a parts job at the GM dealer I work at... he lost it due to a change in leadership and lack of his own motivation.. but he often said he just wanted to be a mechanic... like his "Uncle Kenny"...
I did try to talk him out of that...but...
After a brief time in college courses, he landed a "Valvoline Quick Lube" job, started to show leadership and became known as "Stew".. forming a huge friend base... and was seeming to turn his life around with owning up to forced young responsibilities..
Feb 14th 2015 4:07am.. .. riding home as a passenger in his own truck with his best friend Jon at the wheel... from a day into night of "Partying" on his 21st birthday .... The Nissan truck left the road and hit a mighty Oak.. 1.5 miles away from his home..
Needless to say the party is over... for both.
Not sure of the final ins and outs just yet, besides speed and most likely some type of influence, (pending), and in reality it makes no difference now, unless there was an outside and unknown second vehicle (as some are grasping)
I point no real blame as it was an accumulating situation ..... that could have been avoided.... 110%
Even though he wasnt an avid user... (we agreed too much drama) Gary's Facebook cover photo... had been the same (still is) since he worked with me... so I felt I made some impact however little it was... I guess just not enough... or in time...
It really freakin' sucks...
See ya #1 Nephew... give em' hell wherever you have landed....least until I'm there...wherever that may be...
X and his (previous) Jeepster... 2012

My condolences sir. It happens more often than you think and is 100% preventable. I've never driven under the influence but I have driven too tired and almost went nose first into the back of a trailer at 70 miles per hour about 2 miles from home at 4 a.m. after an evening of hanging out at the illegal street races, somewhere I probably shouldn't have been in the first place. |

Sorry my friend. Lost a cousin to driving drunk and 2 uncles and one aunt to alcohol abuse. I never have tasted it due to being around that, I guess I was afraid I would turn out the same. If ya want/need to talk just gimme a call.

Thank you...
I've never driven after any drinking.. but yes.. tired is just as bad.
Numerous times of sleepy nods for me too.. but the two that stuck were,
I awoke just at the right time headed toward the middle of the "Pines" off I-85 in Virginia at about 2am... and another time the feeling of the steering wheel slipping in my fingers.. again in Virginia at about 4am...
Needless to say.. I now stop and get a snooze before pressing on...
Not worth the risk to save an hour or two.
No way I can sleep with anyone else driving..well. .. except my Pop... That man has more miles and seat time than any mortal...

I fully understand your choice not to partake.. ... I agree. I appreciate the thoughts of friendship Tim...
Dependency is a tough nut to crack.. I have a few close family members that have issues.. and some have made the choice, others cant..or wont.....so I can certainly relate.
Everyone grieves in a different way... no right or wrong way IMO.. I'm dealing with it the way I know best..
Whats helped me the most... is realizing at a young age that death is inevitable for us all... The sooner you realize that the more you can appreciate life daily... cause you are not guaranteed the next minute..
Give life respect while ya can...

Theres no good way to say it but I am sorry for your situation. I realized a few years ago that our world aint fair, has never been fair, and will never be fair. NOBODY goes out and plans for bad stuff to happen. This world is so streamlined that one mistake can cost you for life. It aint fair. and there is no punching bag big enough. I KNOW!!!! Hang in there my VW buddy. |
