OK, guys, this is David Barrett, and I want to tell you which chassis
is the best out there.
It seems that this thread has turned into a discussion of brand
loyalty, those with the Berrien think it is the best and those with
the Barrett think it is the best. So, I think here is the Real
Answer....Its the Barrett, no wait...its the Berrien, or the VW
shortened pan, or even better, the one you built yourself. And
that’s the way it should be...
So if you want to know how I can help you build a better dune buggy,
or at least my way of building a better one, give me a call and we can
talk it over, Or give Dave at Berrien a call, they are all buggies and
they are all fun.

David, you’re a class act. I truly hope to build one of your chassis's one day. _________________ Google this.

ok I read all these pages and no mention of weight.
so what's the difference in weight between the stock rusted VW shortened pan and a Berrien?
I need to fix my pan, thinking about just getting a Berrien because they are not far from me. would be a big bonus if they are lighter and might help me make my mind up. |

By the time you add the floor and bulkheads, they definitely weigh more. Weight saving is not a reason to replace your chassis. |

I know this is an old topic, but it didn't make sense to start a new one.
I heard Acme is redesigning the Berrien Chassis, I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about the changes or if it's available.
I'd love a Barrett chassis but CA is too far to drive from upstate NY.
Before I even knew you could buy a Barrett Chassis I built one from a picture of one of his, though at the time, I didn't know it was a Barrett, See the build thread in my sig for details and pics.
I sent an email to Acme, I'll post back if I hear anything. _________________ http://CNYBuggy.org - Central New York Dune Buggy Club

Immitation being the highest form of flattery, I thank you.
I am flattered with photos of builds that come from the Eurotuner car all the time, and I even get phone calls from people asking for the hard to make parts for their chassis...from all parts of the world.
Looks like you did a grand build, I hope your wife drives the wheels off it.
Let me know if I can help with your buggy in any way.
