Spent the night fabbing boxes for a fuse block and the ALDL plug. Decided to mount them to the sides of my overhead console for easy access. Just have to wait a day for the epoxy to set holding the fuse block to the face plate. Then I can really get moving ahead on the rest of the motor wiring.

I'll be looking for some tube to use to start fabbing up the exhaust manifold from the header flange I purchased from a Quad4 forum member.
Not sure if the engine will run without the O2 sensor input. Prolly run in open loop which may have to be a start.
Wire up fuel pump, pickup some coolant hose clamps and make an intake pipe...add coolant( maybe just water for test),add gas?...

You are correct. Open loop. Won't be perfect, but will be extremely satisfying.

You could always get one of those O2 sensor simulators. Plug-and-play.

yeah, it's that MSD fuel pump. Kinda sounds cool I think. Heck hearing the engine actually fire up for the first time in two years sounds really cool!

No exhaust and no coolant yet so I shut it down right away. I just wanted to see if it'd fire and it didn't let me down. Musta done something right?

Prior to this I was messing with the diagnostic plug. ALDL. Usually on OBD I you can jump the test terminal to ground and get the engine light to flash codes. I tried several things and couldn't get the light to flash. I had 5v on the test terminal so I don't think it had to do with the wiring for the diagnostic port. I just never got anything off the wire that goes to the check engine light. I figured maybe I need a bulb that lit on 5v which I didn't, but as I'm thinking about it now, maybe that wire is a switched ground to the bulb and I need power to the other side.

I'd really feel better having that diagnostic plug working and being able to see what the computer is thinking...

but yay! got it running.
so much motivation now. Gotta keep my head on straight before I forget I have no brake lines and take it for a spin lol

It is a switched ground. Make sure your ECU is getting a good ground. Usually there are several grounds for the various sensors. I haven't messed with OBDI in awhile so I'm rusty, but the last OBDII I did gave me the same problem. Engine ran fine, but no light or codes would trigger. Turned out the ECU was bad. Hope this isn't your case.

What material are you using for your header? Looks too light for steel. Stainless?

I decided to go with mild steel instead of SS due to cost and the fact that this is the first time making one and I know I'll screw it up a bit.

It's 16 gauge(.065) and shaping it to match the port ended up being even harder than I anticipated. The first is always a lesson and then the rest get better. It's a little blue from too much heat input which I hope to reduce. I've always been mindful but bad at controling the heat affected zone.
So I ordered some mandrel J bends from Jegs to do the next length. My bender has a 6" CLR which is not going to work for making tight fitting bends.

I have a couple different scenarios on how this pipe is going to end up and won't know which I'll do untill I get done. This is gonna take a few weeks just due to having to order bends one at a time as I need them.

I plan to get it ceramic coated once I'm done.

alright gotcha. idk it looked too light in color in the picture for mild steel. i am sure that it will look great when you are done. your attention to detail despite not knowing the direction your going to go always seems to pay off in the end. as most of the rest of the participants in your build thread i am anticipating eagerly to see how it turns out.

I dug very deep for my header pics when I had to make mine. pretty much as simple as possible from only a few u bends. are you going to go straight out a bit then down?

After a Holloween weekend of doing nothing in the garage I was up late last night working on the exhaust.
I decided to remove the collector before fabbing up any more runners and weld it up solid. I added a O2 bung and the 2" pipe that will connect to a muffler.

I also found an empty husk of a Supertrapp stainless steel "superlight" muffler the other day to the tune of $10. I will have to come up with all new guts for it since it didn't come with any but beside the supertrapp disks it shouldn't cost much. Cleaning it up today at my desk while it rains outside.

Got an idea of how it'll look. Not exactly simple. Can't ake pics from father back because my back's literally against the wall here.

How bad do you have to cut yourself with a cutting disk on a 4-1/2" grinder before you need to seek medical attention????
Shocked
