I have a early 64 that looks just like yours. The deck lid you have it worth a ton of $. I had to take three bad ones to make a good one. I was not able to find a good one world wide that was not $700.00 or more with shipping and other. I think you have the correct hood for your Vert. Does your have all the drip pans and such under it?

Keep up the good work. If you need pictures of what should be where let me know and I will help if I can. I wish I had done what you are doing. My vert was found all bunt out and had a front and back end collision anad PO R"repaired but is close to right now after alot of bending cussing.

Hmm... not sure about the deck lid. The centre pressing looks like the more common ones and has the larger hole behind the popes nose.

Another quick session in the shed. Seems like I only can grab an hour here and there at the moment. A bit frustrating!

Got the lower lip dialed in, plug welded the inner frame and finished cleaning up the join inside and out. Also added some spot welds to help hide the fact that the front had been grafted on.

Just the other side to do now.

Got some from CIP. They are only 36" long so will join a few together to get the length needed.

Nice 63!

One advantage of breaking the vert down. A lot easier to work on the bench and get to those hard to reach places.

The front clip is now 95% complete, with the join now ground back inside and out.

So moving onto some other repairs. The lower firewall section in front of the heater channels were rusted through. I'd done one earlier that I still was not happy with. But now that I have good access, time to get it right.

These areas should look like this. Note how there is a joggle in the flange to accommodate the side of the heater channel. This is what needs recreating as removing the heater channel buggered up these sections.

So I made a really simple tool using the bench vise, the replacement panels came up a treat!

Then is with the replacement panel. I really need a little reciprocating saw. Really hard to get in there with the grinder.

Now just to clean up the welds.

inspirational. your clip job needs to be shown to anyone contemplating clipping their car as an example of how one should look when finished. (the same could be said of all your work really)

Sorry, none to speak of. Shed time has been disappointingly low. Really need to get stuck in and get the vert back into one piece.

A sad day for my VW world yesterday. The 59 vert is in storage as well as my whole workshop...

In two weeks I'm moving the family to the other side of the world to Switzerland. A great job opportunity that could not be turned down. I'll really miss my workshop and the space we have. Living in an apartment again after 15 years in the country will take some adjusting.

So no progress on the vert for at least 3 years I'd say. Collecting parts? Why not. Germany is just over the boarder..... hmm
