I looked into it, thunder truck drags are that Saturday at Woodburn, definitely going to that. going to try and find a tow bar and tow the bug to the bugin with my jeep. hopefully they will let me park them as I tow them. that would look pretty cool I think. I looked into it a bit sounds like it will be a kick in the pants. _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

I haven't posted in a long time, I haven't done much work to the bug this summer, busy with camping and what not. thought I would show a little of my progress.
messy on the inside, por15'd the pan patched a few holes. there are some small rust holes in the pan still but ill leave them there.
I think I am going to leave the dash pad off and just run with a black dash I think it looks pretty good this way.
started the wiring this weekend, running a generic light switch, using a relay and a toggle switch to operate the headlights. relay for starter signal to starter relay, and relay for ignition. need to figure out a way to operate the fuel pump relay so it will shut off when the engine dies.
this is my shop lol summer and winter

Good progress. I also have a single car garage... Soon to change we hope. I have a bunch of wiring stuff left over from when we wired my car. Let me know if I can save you any money on this or not. Bunch of extra wire and connectors etc etc. Let me know what you need.

I have everything I need except time and motivation. We are getting my girlfriends son a car that's been sitting a few years. So I need to get mine driving since I'll have to concentrate on that one.
Just need to keep motivated. And like I said figure out how to make power to the fuel pump shut off if the engine dies.
I'm thinking of tying into the gen light or the oil pressure switch..
One thing I had t do that sucked was go back to a single carb because my engine cage to rear roll cage hoop bars won't allow for duals _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

You could also wire your pump through a relay that would cut power if the oil pressure light came on easy enough |

Not intended to take away from the thread chopper.
Thanks for the great idea Basher52. I need to do this for my future project.
Sorry to say that is not really off road driving, but it is.

That's a good idea, but its 35$. Not much when you look at all the other money, but I have regular relays hanging around. I am going to try and use the field wire for the alt. To energize the relay.
If it works like I think it should have power once it starts spinning. I'll try this way first if it works, cool if not I'll go a different way. Now I want to do it just to see if it works.
I got the tach, oil press, oil temp, volt, and amp gauge mounted today need to build a power and ground harnness for them still.
Would like to have it running on Friday, not that far away. Last big thing is a stock fuel tank its a 70 body so if anyone reading knows of a very inexpencive non rusted out one it would be appreciated. I think that's my last major expence _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

so I have had the engine running, have not driven it yet. got the gas tank installed. getting things buttoned up in the car need to re drill the shroud so I am unable to hook the throttle cable up yet.. so when I went to start it the other day it started revved really high and the oil filter seal blew. this is the second time this has happened. nothing different has been done, I have had it running revved to the moon and nothing happened. last time this happened it was because I had the relief and bypass valves backwards switched those and have not had the problem till the other day. need to pull them back out and make sure I don't have a sticking valve I guess. _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

Car hasn't made much progress, wiring is done. Got tail lights for the rear. The winter snow was the kick in the pants I needed. Traded an old tool box for an 8x12 shed. So the garage has been cleaned out making room for me to push the car in and get some work done. Although I just built this 1776 I just picked up a 93 Subaru 2.2. Have all pieces to put that in just need to build a radiator mount. Pics to come this weekend. _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

Decided to clean the garage and try and get the Baja inside during this rain. Need to get my subj motor on a stand and open up some room on the other side. Have not made much progress lately, but hope to now. Finish up wiring, then I can get the interior in and drive a bit with the vw engine while I get the subi ready
After looking at the picture I figured I had better wash it since I never have since owning

Got back to working on the Vw engine. Been a busy summer and house projects took money away to get the sub I going. Vw engine still running on 2&4 only been messing with that this weekend. Double checked can alignment by removing oil pump and inspecting pump drive slot compared to tdc. lokks correct. Rockers move the same amount front to rear, compression is 135psi, two single barrel carbs, blue coil, new cap rotor, wires. Have swapped wires, with it running rough I got timing to 10deg. Spark at all four plugs, swapped plugs around. I am at a loss of wat it could be. Got fuel got spark got air...
Any guesses? _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

Did you pull the idle jets out of the offending side? May be plugged. Does it run on all 4 when you rev it? |

Its not an offending side..it is the two front cylinders, 1&3. One on each side that's what making it so dificult. Cam does not appear to be flat, have adjusted the valves per the manual. Has spark at all four plugs. _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |

little help from my girlfriends kid, we got the seats in, drive lines in, adjusted the clutch, and moved it out of the driveway to the stop sign and back under its own power. pretty happy for now.

Got it running pretty good, built a new throttle set up. kind of a complicated set up but should work ok. Need to mess with the breaks. The reservoir Was empty. Should have a nice weekend this week should be able to give it a spin. _________________ my build page http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=536267 |
