Im going to buy this from a friend i am currently deployed to afghan with and he dont know much about it. Hes only used it for road riding and he thinks its is a 1969 motor. Was wandering if anyone can tell what it is from the picture and if anyone can help me with how much they think this is worth! He has a title for it too and he said it leaks no fluids and everything works.

Dual port something or other. The case number only tells you what the motor originally was. Over the years most have been rebuilt with different parts, so you will never really know until you open it up. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

Looks like the frame is set for double shocks, but only using the stock mount. Weird.
I would buy it with no motor and get a new one. Or just drive that till it explodes. That motor has an okay cooling setup and I will guess its a 1600 or 1500. The filter pump tells me that whoever slapped it together cared somewhat. _________________ Wash your hands

Whatever he isn't asking for it. So between $500 and $2000 _________________ Wash your hands

3K would be top dollar in my opinion. I would try and get it fro 2-2.5 though. It may look nice, but you will never know what kind of previous owner syndrome you will find when it time for its next service. _________________ 1800 Type 4 Berrien 295

If the engine started out as a 1969, it would have originally been a 1500. 1300 was 1966 only. But as VanApple said, the engine is now 45 years old and is not likely to still have the original pistons and cylinders. It has been upgraded to dual-port cylinder heads. The only way to know for sure what is inside is to take it apart. 1500 pistons and cylinders (83mm) are not even commonly available any more. Most everyone replaces them with 85.5mm 1600 pistons and cylinders. They slip right into the same place without any machine work to give more displacement and more power at the same cost and fuel economy. So the engine in that buggy is almost certainly at least 1600cc, and may be bigger.
The Weber Progressive 2bbl carb is fine for the street, but many do not like them for offroad. They tend to flood over the top of the float bowl vent into the carb throats on rough terrain or climbing steep hills. But some like them. I suggest giving it a try before you make changes. _________________ Richard

IF price is right, buy it, run it till you break it, fix it the way you want it...
Thank you for your service!
