Just found this little gem, just wondering if it can be ran very carefully, or if it's toast..I don't have much history on the engine, PO said it had a basic rebuild done by him, and he never started it after that Shocked
1600 dual port/relief in a 71' squareback, crack is by #1 cylinder.

How would you weld magnesium without it catching on fire ?

I have a friend that Makes his living welding heads for fords .

tig, with wide gas lens I guess.

haha on the ford heads. Super common problem globally it seems.

I took a head off a ford 4.1L that was cooked last week. 11 cracks!

There are a few places around that weld the cases! It can be done.

Welding magnesium is as easy as welding aluminum the other problem is it looks like the case does not have case savers. I would not use it though just due to the other issues you will run into trying to put humpty dumpty back together,

Brothers Machine welds mag cases, I had my T3 full flow done by them

Not worth the headache. If it were the original numbers matching case for a really nice original car, it would be a different story

That's from late 1970 so it could be the original case...but there's probably lots more issues than just the crack, which is bad enough by itself
