I did a quick search and couldn't find the info I was looking for.

I'm putting in lap belts in both front and rear. The body shop is likely comfortable with the 'how to', but I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of where to physically put the mounts on the pan.

Photos, measurements, anything is appreciated.

I did find his page earlier but it doesn't help me much in the sense that I don't know the best places on the actual pan to mount the seatbelts, especially for the rear.

For the fronts, I used the measurements that correspond to lap belt mounting points for the later equipped cars, using the measurements in this link:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=496696&highlight=seat+belt+mounts

For the rear, I used the outboard chassis mounts with new hardware, and for the middle points, I made threaded plates which I mounted similar to later cars:

Glad to help. BTW, I used 1/8" steel plate and welded on the nuts. I used 7/16" hardware.

On my car I welded mounts for front belts into tunnel roughly where they are located on later cars. For the outer portion of the front belts I put the mounts into the heater channels. I never put rears in my car but I do have a section cut from a later donor car for the inner rear belt mounting location if you need. I don't like mounting belts in the floor pans... looks untidy IMO.

Once again, you pull through Wink

I did the same as you . . . but I rounded all the edges and corners of the 1/8" steel plate before I welded them in. I wanted to reduce the chance of the plate tearing the sheet metal in the event that they are ever "put to the test"!

That is a great idea, and very worth mentioning!

.... wish I had thought of that!

It is worth mentioning that the tunnel mount can get dicey because of conduit. Just like in john Henry's write up, you will have to push one of the conduits down and tack it lower in the tunnel. I'll include a pic. In my car, it was the accelerator conduit.

So . . . panicman, did you weld that "nut plate" to the INSIDE of the tunnel?

No! I welded it to the exterior of the tunnel. I followed John S Henry's direction.
