I was thinking about running 155/60r15 and 175/65r15 smart car tires on the new wheels.
I have a 2" narrowed beam, on adjusters, stock spindles and brakes. Very minor spline adjustment in back, the PO did it. Not low at all.
Short axels in the rear.
The wheels are 5.5 wide with BACKSPACING 3.80INCH ET+14
I'm REALLY ignorant about backspacing and what sizes are good. I'd like to get as wide of a tire under there as I can. Any opinions about the sizes I listed?

you don't need tires ANYWHERE NEAR THAT SMALL with your set up. 165/60/15 front and 185/65/15 rear. you could even go with a 195 or maybe even 205/65/15 out back hard to say without pics. _________________ ITMC

It's interesting that the ET of the 5x130 bolt patterned wheel is +35. |

getting more "middle of the road" with consideration for the cars that came in that pattern most likely since they would have been closer to the +40range. _________________ ITMC

Well, hit a few snags today- got the tires mounted and on the rear, but the studs for the front, that I ordered with the wheels, are a bit too long and are blinding/hitting the brakes. The stock studs are too short.
I'm not sure what to do- I don't have anyway to cut them.

Install the studs... use a grinder to remove the excess from the inside.

Are they studs or lug bolts? Either than be shortened with a grinder. If you taper the end a little with the grinder they will thread in easier. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

^ Nice.. but...may I ask why you opted for 4 lug on a "early look" car...
The wheels look good.. and out of place at the same time
Not knockin' just askin'...

The cost to swap it to 5 lug was more than I wanted to spend. I would have had to buy new drop spindles, plus a all new front disk brake set up and new rear drums. I talked with airkewld and he said it was my only option because of the front disk brakes and their drop spindles. |

And I thought the purists were bad enough here. |
Pfff...Yeah.. right like Im a Purist....
My signatures.. pretty much sum it all up for me..
Nah... its just my OCD ADHD. . couldn't stand for 4 lugs on an old VW....
That being said.. even in 4 lug... they are the best looking 4 lug rims out there.. IMO.
They provide a good 5 lug illusion with the 5 spokes and 5 slots
and....I proudly display my thoughts!
Im all about your car do what YOU like..
Then drive the shitoutta it..

Forgot to post up
An angle grinder made short work of the bolts, so I have them on now.
I'm VERY happy with them.
