I'm sure this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Just bought a 1970 Karmann Ghia thats all original. When i start the car it starts up nicely but the exhaust and metal around the engine heats up very very quickly to a scorching temperature. Is that normal for these cars? It just seems very hot to me unlike the aircooled owners I know locally. Thanks for feedback ahead of time |

Well is the fan blocked or not moving air thru the engine compartment as it should. When they are cold and first started if the engine still has a working thermostat and flaps for it's air flow they will not move much air through the engine compartment and out under the car the first 4 or 5 minutes of operation then they get hot enough to open up the thermostat controlled flaps and start to move a lot of air. Also check your timing! What engine is it? Single or Dual port? Dog-house fan shroud? I think they did not get those until July 1970 probably just on the 1971 models in the us market. The Dog-House fan shroud is a much better cooling system for them. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |
