|
|
I was taking out the "rain catcher" from my '69 convertible engine deck lid in order to detach the licence plate light, so i could remove the deck lid.
This object was in there. The wire was running in the same area as the licence plate light, but not attached to anything.
To get an idea of the size, it's about an inch and a quarter in length
Any ideas? |

Might it be a type of distributor condenser:
Maybe it got tossed in on accident during a tuneup? _________________

Your idea makes total sense. I've just never seen one like this...
The wire is quite long, and thicker (at least the insulation) than any condenser I've seen. The insulation is not green (like all the ones i've seen). It has been painted in part, but the unpainted portion is black.
It also has a small bolt on the top.
It also has no "bracket" to attach it to the distributor.
Maybe this is just a very old one, or one produced by a manufacturer not typically associated with VW... like Delco maybe.
Thanks for your reply. |

^^^ great idea there. I didn't think about that- but it would also be a simple leftover from a radio installation where spare parts started flying around the shop! (zip screws were common projectiles back in my stereo install days...) _________________
