|
|
Hi, following my post on the interior thread, and the Outlaw remark, I have seriously been thinking about going that way with the fastback.
Its an October 65 Fastback in baltic blue.
I've found a set of pedrinis which I will detail like this:
Planning for a 2 spline drop front, 1 at the rear. A camber compensator too.
For the interior either of these with the OG rear bench trimmed to match:
or
Steering wheel, maybe one of ISP Wests black GT500s (or a gold metalflake moon, just kidding)
Any other ideas to turn this into a nice Outlaw inspired car? (Shifter, spotlights, headlight grilles or black tape crossed over them..) At a later date maybe a bigger motor ect... but for the moment mostly cosmetic things.
Thanks for your input _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia - Sold

no smiling while driving. If the parts look obvious, paint black. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Not sure if I like the no bumpers look on a Type 3. _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia - Sold

you have to leave bumpers off. I think it is rule #4. All jokes aside, interesting look, not sure how long the interior noise would take to drive you nuts. It does make it easy to clean. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Great idea about the sleeve with holes!!
Not sure if I would go for such an extreme amount of carpet and trim removal inside. _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia - Sold

I wonder if you would notice if there was just rubber floor mats (custom fit) with some bed liner or sound deadener under them. Try to leave as much paint on the inside as possible. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Not that it matters, but I TOTALLY approve of your twisted line of thinking with this project!! I think the world needs a few more Porsche inspired outlaw cars. If I ever owned a 356, it would have to be done outlaw style.
You're out of excuses. Time to start acquiring parts building your ride!!
BTW, the seats in the 911 at the top are nice and functional, but make getting in and out of a car funny for others to watch. . . And if you have a waistline larger than a 36", forget it; you won't fit in them. _________________ Regards,

For heaven's sake, put a type4 and a Porsche 5-speed in there. . . It's the right thing to do!! |

Knock-offs. (easier said than done unless you fake it.)
Triple guage cluster where the radio plate would normally be fitted.
Try to find the old Empi guages or something that doesn't look too out of place.
(no visible signs of radio or sound system either. If you must have tunes - sing something).
You got to have some meat on the tyres. No teeny tiny, skinny winny front tyres, outlaws gotta have some rubber. _________________ Sydney, Australia.

This is great!!! Keep the ideas coming.
I may even push the vice to getting leather bonnet straps
The extra gauges sound good. And maybe i can go for smaller door cards which will leave more metal exposed.
Leather belt with holes instead of window winders?
I should fit fine in the seats, I'm a 31 waist _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia - Sold

A 911 speedo fits into the stock speedo hole *if* you use the factory Porsche rubber rings on the outside. Same goes for the 911 clock and/or the fuel/oil level combo gauge. Oddly the oil level gauge uses the same oHms scale as any oil temp sender but rests (with the ignition off) in the red. Works perfect for oil temp.
Here's a shot of my Porsche inspired dash in my car.
