The van is from europe (vin number) but has a MPH North American dash pod, but is supposed to have 44,000 original miles?
Has a hodge-podge of interior parts and is clearly a pop-top conversion.
Claims no rust yet you can see the fresh under-coating over the original battered undercoat, always a red flag for rust. |
Not to mention the leftover brown interior bits in the cab...barf!
I have the same funny speedo problem. Canadian-spec westy, ordered for pickup in Germany by original owners, shipped back to U.S. then imported into Canada - MPH speedo! _________________ 89 Syncro GL Westfalia 2.1 WBX/WBXaustSS

Contacted the poster (she doesn't own the van) and my questions had to be answered by her 'partner'. Talked with other Samba members, and this vehicle is NOT what is advertised. Putting some of it together:
At least DOUBLE the mileage showing
Steers very hard - something wrong there
Dash only partially working
Sink pump not working
Fridge doesn't work on Propane
Propane NOT certified
City water torn out of body
Rear heater removed
HOLE in body through to engine compartment
NO house battery
It's going to require a LOT of fixing |

...Can I just say thank you for not adding my ad here? Thanks to transmission issues today it's likely off the market until I get it sorted properly (no lemons!) on the plus side they'll give me a PPI! |

This post is to warn all Samba members about an unscrupulous seller on Craigslist. He goes by the name of Ben and runs a continuous ad for "1980-1991 Vanagon parts" in the Seattle area. He is in Tacoma but his cell phone comes back to his mothers place in Auburn.
From my experience you have about a 50% chance of getting the part you pay for. He does not use PayPal as they would not put up with his BS. The last part I paid for has never come despite repeated promises to send it. Now he won't respond to email or phone calls.
I posted a warning on Craigslist and have received several responses from other people he has stiffed. _________________ 1989 Syncro Hardtop, 2.5 '07 Subaru

Flipper alert!
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1705141
Whats up with the dash pod? The van is from Europe (220v setup, zzz vin) but the speedo is in MPH? Makes me question the claimed milage. Also it has a tach, I may be wrong but I don't think any diesel Vanagon came with a tach.
Another odd thing is he claims it's a Club Joker, yet there are no power windows or mirrors. Those were some of the bits that make a "Club" vs a regular Joker.
It's a very nice van, but maybe half the price. _________________ Currently:

The low mileage early model 2wd speedometer isn't a good selling point, it doesn't instill confidence in the seller's honesty either. |

You can ask anything you want, what it sells for and how long it takes is the true Litmus.

Oh, I understand. There's also a really nice '85 that's been on CL locally for weeks at about the same price; big bumpers, nice wheels, lots of tasteful mods, etc. I'd have expected that one to go long before this aircooled one and I guess the race is on to see which sells first. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |
