That would depend more on the year.

If it has a locking treasure chest. Side gates are expensive to replace. The dividers that block off the gas tank.

Look for any specific single cab parts. Seat frames are the same as that year bus, as long as it is bench seat. Divider panels are not that hard to come by. All mechanicals are the same as same year bus. Treasure chest doors and latches can be difficult to find in good shape, as are the gates. Rear gates, though the same as crew cab rear gates, seem to have taken the most beatings over the years so they can be tough to find in good condition.

Bottom line with any bus/truck purchase, get one as complete as possible, with as little body damage/repair as possible that you can afford.

Rear bumpers are different from passenger and panel buses IIRC.

Actually they are the same. Early (pre-1961?) SC and DC rear bumpers are different from panels/passenger buses.

The rear window is the only one that is DC/SC only.

Yep. 65 squirtrs are on year only. But they are the same as any 65 bus. Their location has been a topic of discussion.

Samba search is down right now ,but there is a specific thread on the location of 65 washer squirters. Either "innie" or 'Outie".

Rear truck bumpers are the same as bus bumpers but they have a very slight curvature modification on the top inside edge where the bumper nears the body corner. The corners changed in 62-ish and the bumpers then became identical. Earlier bumpers are easily modified from bus to truck with careful application of an angle grinder. There is thread on this somewhere, too.

It's ALL about the gates, hinges, latches and treasure chest doors and their latch assemblies. They can be very tough to find in good shape. Especially the later ones like 67......

My truck had a twisted and beat down tailgate. It took me two years to find an original replacement, and it had severe rust. Still, I was happy to have it, rusty and all.

If the upper bed skins are shot, you're looking at well over $600 for the four skins alone.

A set of reproduction gates, 2 treasure chest doors and upper bed skins from Klassicfab would cost $4000-5000 easy. And then, you still get to paint install all of it.

My Truck was redone in '78, I just noticed this year that the right side gate is a '67 only gate-- it has rectangular box impressed around each spot where hinge meets gate, the left is '66, also, it was pointed out this summer that the rear quarter - Pass. Side is '67 as well, it has the finger indentation for the '67 only, no key gas flap lid.

When I had a 55 truck I bought a new PAIR of Gerson metal bumpers for that.

Rear bumper through 58 is special for truck.
59 -mid 60 is same as bus except slightly notched.
It is the same for mid 60 & later truck or bus.

FWIW a sc is much simpler to fix up than a camper.
Yes it's all about the gates, 'bout the gates

When were squirters introduced? I recall seeing something odd once about the bumper over riders having a washing feature to clean the headlights! Sorta odd, but cool nonetheless! Wink
