so how do y'all secure things in your bus? like a tool box or extra spare tire?
I have a medium size tool box, 2 spare tires I need to latch down somehow in the rear luggage area. I don't want this stuff flying around if I get into an accident.
also where can I get a spare tire mount for the interior since mine was cut off by the previous owner?
thanks!

Design a rack using steel tubing to hold the 2 tyres vertically as well as allowing you to lash things down in the rear luggage area.

Secure using the rear seat back screw holes and make legs.

Need some welding skills.

That is very good forward thinking. I was in an accident with my Bus when it was loaded with luggage and such. I was hit from behind then pushed into the truck in front of me. The force of the hit was enough to put all the contents of the rear cargo area against the walk-thru divider. It tore out the rear seatback stays and folded the seat down. The worst part of it all was that seated in the middle of the rear seat was my one year old Son in his child seat. The child seat protected him and he was unharmed, but from then on...cargo netting and cinch straps. That, and load the floor area first.

Secure all loads.

Gordo.

For attaching stuff on boats I use those little U hooks that use a screw at each end. Then baby or large bungee cords depending on what is held in place. If you want really trick hold-downs there are Perko ell brackets with a little star thumbscrew to release the item held in place.

On our fist Bus we had a 2 drawer Sears tool box bolted on the floor under the rear seat and a board bolted down next to it with the jack (with cutouts for the wheels) and a strap that went over it to hold it down. Looked nice and did work but I hated it as it was always a project to get anything out.

We use these kits in our trailers and tow vehicles at work.

They have many different fittings depending on the load needing to be secured.

Try a search of the "Classifieds" here on this very website. See the "Classifieds" button at upper right? Hove mouse cursor over that and a list pops up. Left click on "Search" and enter spare tire and select "Parts - type2/bus - 1949-67" in the "categories" box.

If no luck, try posting a "WTB" ad.

thanks for the ideas. I have a rack, but putting stuff up there make it too top heavy. I got some 300lb straps and D rings to mount them too. I got 8.8 bolts to bolt down the D rings which ill hook the ratcheting straps too.
im looking at a spare tire mount meant for the front of the bus that i'll get to fit in the stock location. I cant find any replacement mounts just like stock so i'll get close to it and make it strong.
