I don't know why you could not as they will go so short! They usually leak oil though. Better to go with stock. Pushrod tubes or Stainless steel Stock push rod tubes. http://vwparts.aircooled.net/VW-Pushrods-PR-Tubes-...amp;page=2

they probably have to be specifically made for a 36 hp but generally they are a bad idea on any engine

I've used them a few times with excellent success, but I don't know if they will fit a 36hp engine. FWIW, I have only used the Scat brand tubes from Aircooled.net and I followed John's instructions to a "tee" for a leak free install. If you have an otherwise good engine that just has a leaking push rod tube or 2, these tubes work great. I wouldn't install 8 of them or use them during an engine build though.

People that run the whole sets like the JayCee ones the best. Better ask if they would work on a 36 horse though!
