Hey folks just wanted to share some pictures of my bug in action after a rear torsion bar adjustment. the driver side was soft and chewed my fender a little I also put up some interior\exterior shots The bug may be a little redneck but I sure like it latest updates are a 2180 [82x92] stroke/bore change was 78.4x90.5 cam change110 was 120. went with dual 40IDFs from kadrons also changed to Digital distributer from svda and added wide band tri mil exaust for tuning {still to come] Frank is still pretty rough /unfinished and there is several areas iwill need to go back and revisit /tune/polish /redo but overall seems to work very well and I am happy with the theme of the build. it is a lot of fun to rip around town and a blast in the rough It just seems to want more abuse. ENJOY
Thanks for looking
Terry

Looks great! I dig it. Would you mind telling me what size those front tires are and how wide the rim is? I really like the way they look! |

Thanks for compliments guys Brian...HERC.....winchin73blazinbaja.
fishybastard they are 215-75-15 on 4.5rims for front 32x11.5 x15 0n 8"rims in back For those that are interested the gauges are from DAKOTA DIGITAL and are made for a bug. When I redid my motor home a couple years ago I put a set of DAKOTA gauges in the dash of that rig. Sure made all wiring easy as they have signal light ,high, beam gear shift indicator and cruise control all built in. This newer version that's in the bug has expansion modules that allowed me to have a GPS speedo to do away with the cable speedo or a hall affect sensor on the CVs. Added bonus is time and elevation Another module does cylinder head temp and exhaust temp you can have 2 CHT or 2 EGT or 1CHTand 1EGT it is kind of a pain cause you have to scroll into the program to see there values I would prefer the figures to be up all the time while tuning. But should be fine for checking or trouble shooting after its all dialed in Here is some pics of motor home

OK guys was out to forestry and have pics and maybe video to share we'll see as I think I am a computer invalid
Alright that seems to be working the vids are impressive[at least to me] this bug realy seems to work well. Think I need to crank up the front adjusters a little to make it work better. Was a great day never had to turn a wrench or screwdriver take jack or shovel off or get pulled out [much to son in law's disappointment ] Went every where and climbed all on it's own power
Check out the vids sorry I don't know how to load them so there is a little youtube box Will edit in more vids as time allows

How much travel do you have?
How much ground clearance?
That area looks alot like the terrain here in Eastern Tennessee. |

The second from the last video is a hill that I would not want to have to back down. lol
Maybe it's just me, but your front suspension looks to be really soft and kinda low. Have you lifted it or anything? _________________ Ms Hoover, I glued my head to my shoulder.

Hello guys
earthquake--I don't know how hot the intakes get but will be checking on them now! Do you think it will be a problem ? I cant be the first to run these tri mils and dual carbs Could probly wrap either header or intake if it becomes a issue.
EnjoyNukaCola--Thanks that's my version of how to get cutting brakes in a Baja I still need to learn to use them always to busy sawing on the wheel. I wanted them more as a traction aid Big learning curve
MetricMuscle--I have fox 2.0 shocks up front are 12" out back are 14" I think there is 15" clearance when set up but is settling so will have to adjust front torsions
sloboatnova--yea I don't think I would like to back down it either It is a very long and steep hill. my buddy on the camera said he wished he had of panned out at the end to show how long/steep it was. We had already climbed hard to where he took that video. There was some fairly high rock bluffs on the steep part of the hill. The climb in the video was the easy part !! Camera man was kicking him self for not getting it said it was real impressive. About the front end yes I think the torsion bars have taken a set and now it is soft and low I will need to crank the bars up
Was a great day and very successful first trip to mountains. Found out I need to revisit the front bumper I am giving up a lot capability because it sticks out to far and the car would have a better approach angle if it was closer to the body. Need to stiffen front bars up. Toss the latest rage 1:1 rack in garbage and get a SACO 1 1/2:1 rack and swap out cheapo steering joints for some good ones I think there is 3 or 4 joints and the cumalitive play in them does not impress me.
AND TO MY jeep FRIEND WHO KEPT SAYING "OH YOU WONT MAKE IT THERE I'LL HAVE TO TOW YOU THERE" PISS OFF just you wait till I get this rig set up and working the way I want

I got pretty lucky Brian we never went anywhere that I couldn't back up and give it another go He never did get to unroll his tow strap Heard it through the grapevine that the son inlaw was just dying to pull me out. I had never been to that part of the forestry That is his stomping grounds and I suspect he took me to all the places that I might need pulled out. The Baja Bug did get a lot of attn. When it showed up they stayed and watched it climb or cross Nobody has really seen a Baja up here. In the staging area I overheard someone say "That takes awesome to a whole new level" I just smiled and felt a little bit proud for Frankinbug

Hello,
I was wondering where did you found those mirrors, or did you build them? |

Hello InkyLewis sorry for delay you know work and life getting in the way of what I would rather be doing {mostly making my wife shake her head }Those mirrors the cage we built and the mirrors themselves are a product from local big rig truck parts supplier. I think we bent them out of 1/2"scrap tube I found. I think you can find prebuilt ones on the samba I just stole the idea from something I had seen. Actually all the tube work was bent by my friend Robin and myself short of a cheapo 6 point empi cage. We mostly did it kinda red neck style duct tape tube end sand filled tap it tape other end heat it and bend around what ever was handy hitching post, old rim, burning barrel, etc. See that sexy roof rack 1" garage door head shaft tube and expanded sheet metal, couple of 2 piece lock collars some scrap plate and viola SEXY ROOF RACK AND IMPLIMENT HOLDER later guys gotta continue with what I would rather be doing lookin at another bug to cut up and talkin Baja OH look wife's shaken her head again
