OK, thank you all for good feedback. Yes I had the suspicion it was from a bay I get that much but was informed it was not later than 68 but it's all good in the hood. It fits perfectly and (cru62) the upholstery is original. When I'm done I will post a pic, it will be used turned backwards behind the drivers seat in a 65 samba just like a Westy with collapsible table and all (did I mention I miss my 67 Westy A LOT Embarassed )

I found a matching/upholstered backrest and base, with the backrest having the protrusions as above and the base having the dip. So, am I safe to assume they are from a '64-'67? Odd thing was they were in a '75 DC that have the flat-top pedestal Shocked Weird. Any thoughts?

Cheers.

No, they are not from a 1964-67 DC. They are later Bay window seats if they have the lower additional protrusion pins mentioned/photographed earlier in this thread.

I was reading this thread and noticed the pedestal bases marked for 64-67 all look like what I believe are bay window bases? I thought the round stamping on either side meant it was for a bay. Maybe it's a 66-67 thing since there were drastic changes to the trucks happening in those years but here are a few pictures of my 65 rear seat pedestal.

I know in my 59 there were only the plates on the back wall for it.

Yes, they are Bug gas tank clamps and little wing nuts:

Everett, or anyone really, do you know the size of the bolt and wing nut that affix the clamp to the pedestal? Are they the same size as those that secure the pedestal to the rear wall? Thanks for any help, my OCD for as-true-to original won't let this one go...cheers,

Brian

Sorry, Everett, I should have been more clear: I have neither bolt/wing nut combo (used whatever fit). What were the original metric sizes of the mounting bolt/nuts? As in, what do you have on your's or what does Bill, perhaps, have? Sorry for the confusion...and persistence?

All right, back to work for a minute haha,

Thanks,
Brian

Good info here... I have my pedestal connected to the rear wall with wing nuts, but nothing on the floor. Learn something everyday, time to find some of those gas tank clamps and wing nuts 👍

I would like to see how the upper and lower fix points (on the wall) of the BACK REST of the DC' back seat look like.

I have saved a seat from a bus that has been boxed but unfortunately I didn't see it when it was mounted.

I would also like to see pictures of how the seat is lifted when accessing the storage area below since as far as I can see the back rest blocks (to a certain point) the lifting of the seat. I am just mocking up the seat and trying to figure out the position and the distances of the fix points against the rear wall.

But I am probably mocking up with the wrong distances so thats why.

What is the distance from the rear wall to the farthest part of the pedestal (closest to the driver)? I guess if I have that distance right then the seat will be lifted without being blocked by the back rest.

Thanks!

See the 3 ribs in the above mentioned picture? On the first page there is no mention of them. What years were the 3 ribs on?

The circles are indication of Bay Window pedestal.

Is this a Bay Window rear floor mat or 1961-up Split Bus with the long fingers?

It fits in my '61 Double Cab (which uses an earlier "short finger" mat) but has no visible part # on top like the other mats in the first post of this thread. There is a logo on the underside and the waffle pattern is different than my early mat.

Bay Window?
(Long fingers on sides, some flat portions on underside)

Everett requested that I post some photos of the underside of a rear floor mat I just received from Jacin. He finished the restoration of his 1960 and sent me this mat for my 1963. The mat has no markings top or bottom. Appears to have been cut from another mat maybe? Fits perfectly in the truck around the pedestal.

Thank you.

I agree that is strange that it doesn't have any VW markings or a part #.

If anyone can verify whether that is an original mat, please post or contact me directly.

So I'm sure this has been answered a hundred times, just trying to be clear. I know my 62 DC, built nob 61 should have a humpback front seat, is the rear seat back also supposed to be humpback? Thanks for any help

No, the back seat is a normal seat frame design, same as the one used before the front humpseat, 58 - very early 1961.

Thank you Everett, so I should just be looking for an early 61 or earlier bus front seat back? Any particular named seat I should be looking for? I know it's probably a dumb question lol, just trying to make sure I get the right one. Thanks again!

Yes, basically a 58-60 seat.
It extends into the 1961 model year a little but you can basically ignore that.

It doesn't really have a special name.

Early seats are called flat back seats and 61-62 is humpback as you mentioned.

Yes, it looks like it.
If you already own that seat, it's easier to tell from the back side of the back rest. You can see the spring make a visible hump there.

The hump seat bottom has 2 little arms coming off of it to support the backrest. Only hump seat have these arms.
