I came across some info on Progressive Refinements, that states the Gas Cap became "Vented" on Jan 21st 1958, and is indicated with a "N" stamped in the center, did the 56-57's Gas Cap only have the "Blau Patent" stamp?

Hi. Here is a cap of unknown date. It has the Blau PATENT stamping but does not have the "N".

Anyone have a side by side picture of 100mm vs. 80mm caps? I'm not sure I know what the difference is visually. Do they look the same, made out of aluminum and have the raised VW logo? Which is earlier?

PR is not to be trusted on 50s gas caps. The info there is so far off reality it is quite useless.
All 50s VW caps were vented. There is no other venting for the tank except for the cap.

This is an 80mm cap. The VW logo of the 100mm cap goes right to the OD, easy to spot.
100mm is up to July 55, 80mm is Aug 55 to July 1960.

The script Blau logo indicates this is an early 80mm gas cap. Later 80mm caps had "BLAU" in block letters.
