Pick it apart time. Please tell me what is not correct/needed. Please be brutal

I know the coil (it's painted) which coil is correct?

I know the air cleaner should have the Orange label (it's not a sticker, right?)
Pics of the correct one?

Pics of the correct part of anything else not right would be helpful. Spark plug wires, intake boot, etc. down to the right color would be great

It's a June or July 63, I forgot for now

Thanks in advance

That is nice!

The spark plug wires probably had black ends originally.

The screw for the 90-degree air cleaner to carb. boot was originally slotted - yours is a phillips.

The "sticker" on the air cleaner is silk screened on.
Someone probably cleaned it too well and wiped it off.

Your coil wire is really long but not a big deal.
I wouldn't wrap the spark plug wires around the fuel pump connections like that - seems unsafe to me.
They run to the rear of the fuel pump.

Doesn't look bad at all. A long coil is correct for an early engine; short coils came in with the 1500S. I don't remember the Bosch part number for the right early Type 3 coil offhand. I'll see if I can track it down.

There were two suppliers of sidedraft air cleaners, Mann and Knecht. Everett's right about the Mann filters having instructions silkscreened right onto the air cleaner. Knecht filters, on the other hand, had a rectangular water slide decal with the instructions instead. You've got a Knecht. A few years back I made a run of repro water slide decals for Knecht filters. PM me if you'd like one.

One of the clamps for the air intake boot is installed upside down for some reason. Maybe it's a quick release clamp? They weren't originally fitted to the early engines but they're very convenient and lots of people use them anyway. I do on mine.

There might be something funky going on with your accelerator cable connection. Hard to tell from the photo but something doesn't look quite right there.

Oil pressure sender looks like the right early bakelite type, which is cool.

You'll need to get that fan belt housing sheet metal straightened around the timing hole and get a rubber bung to seal it. Damn that Muir and his screwdriver engine turning advice.

Thanks guys. Good to know the aircleaner just needs a decal, I'll definetly hit you up. The coil is definetly later model with tiny numbers. I'm guessing it's blue and painted black. Which Bosch sticker is correct, the oval one right?

The fresh air clamp IS upsidedown, it's not quick release. I'll fix that this weekend.

I used to have a NOS set of BERU 1500 wires that were all black. DOH!

better pic of accelerator cable. Looks modern, cut to fit with an allen end. Anybody have the right part number for the accelerator cable?

Ok looked at the manual, I'm right on the coil sticker.

New question. I have one of these. Is it 63 vintage? More correct than the zvw one? And how does it mount? Bunch of p-hooks everywhere

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=609497

And And. I want an FM radio. What's right for 63? Keeping in mind German delivery, brought back to NY after touring. I'd like a blaupunkt Mainz but finding with a sleeve is difficult. Blaupunkt or becker preferred cause iphone hookup

Blaupunkt Frankfurt is always a great choice.

Corey has one currently with the correct knobs and faceplate.

Had some interesting times as of late

Drive the car to work last week, nice and cool out, so used the heater. Typical, so hot I have to roll a window down Very Happy

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

On the way home, stopped by a train, so I turned the car off. Left the lights on. 5-10 minutes later, starter spins but wont start. Remembered the lights, turn em off, engine starts and blows a spark plug out of the head Rolling Eyes

limp it home (loudly) on 3 to asses the damage.

no shavings at all. So got some new NGK B5HS plugs the next morning, some antisieze and gapping, it went in and stayed in. Took it out that night and got it up to top speed. I'll have to watch out for that plug

Sunday I got at the gauges, None of the lights were working (I think just ground) clock wasn't hooked up, etc so I took everything apart and cleaned terminals and such (actually everything on this car is in good shape so not sure it helped)

anyways, got almost all of it working. No red light, and the gas gauge reads really low (it's full) but at least everything lights up now and the clock didn't lose a minute over 23 hours

also installed the parcel tray, which would be that Gepackablage tag

Question time. Bought a vintage (suposedly working) Blaupunkt Essen. I tried finding a new yorker or a koln, but geez those things are out of control expensive

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

So, What all do I need? I know I'll need the actual underdash housing thing. Mario has reproductions that I guess I can use if I can't find the correct original one. I'm guessing the 3prong plug is speaker(s)? or is power on that too? I'm going to try a hidden antennae, I really don't feel like drilling the fender Shocked . And what speaker fits in the dash?

HELP
Cool

I have the vinyl housing but it's not in perfect shape, probably not nice enough for your car. Yes, the 3-prong plug is for the speaker. The original speaker would have been one of these:

You need the front and rear hanger brackets for that radio. Man those soft covers were super hard to find 10 years ago Shocked . Now, shit out of luck I guess. I bet something nice could be made from vinyl or leather.
