Yeah, I think any of us that are following this thread and Darrel's "Back in the Saddle" thread will be interested in "the Rest of the Story"! |

Finally found the time to finish installing the windlace and since I had to pull out the speaker panel, painted the front speaker grills dark chrome. Found the original bright chrome too blingy _________________ "Sometimes people forget they signed up to a HELP & SHARE Forum not a pissing contest"

It got so cold here that I had to adjust the choke and idle volume screw to compensate for the temperatures being in the 30's (F). The choke was closing too far, but seems to open a bit too quickly. There's a two minute gap between where the choke is off and the engine is not quite ready for it. I was unable to find a shop that would weld the support tab onto my single QP muffler which had broken off, so I drilled and tapped it to install a bolt. I burned the glasspack out during the summer and the mellow tone is gone, but the quietpack sounds louder than it did before, and I don't think they have any internal insulation.
I also found out something weird: I have an electric fuel cutoff solenoid, and one day during the summer I was not comfortable with they way someone was watching the car, so I move the solenoid connection from the positive ignition coil terminal to the negative. I figured the car would stall out if they tried to steal it, and moving the connection to the wrong side would be less obvious than the terminal hanging loose. Then I forgot about it, and discovered I had been driving it that way for several months. Turns out the solenoid does not use that much power, and would open like a fuel injector each time the breaker points opened. I'm surprised it worked like that, but at least it made for a good durability test. However, it would also explain the funny points wear, lol. I have to say it runs better without the excess load on the points side of the circuit. |

Little new here, and a month new into the Ghia world (FINALLY!!). Today I installed a new oil pressure switch and cured the oil light problem. Kept fitting the cheap carpet I'm putting in for the time being, and pulled the rain tray for repairs. Still chasing electrical problems from past owners hacking however.
Much more has happened since taking ownership, but that's a longer story. Oh, and it's a '72 coupe! Not the lowlight like I wanted, but the price was right. |

Not today, but yesterday kept plugging away on the electrical problems. Found both brake switches bad, that was surprising. This weekend also picked up the rest of the pieces for a early front turn signal conversion, missing decklid scripts, and some other trim and rubber seals. Purchased a Type 4 case for the eventual turbo build for this car, yahoo! |

Registered the car in my name. Bought it Saturday, so it was due. Sorry, wish I had a better tale! |

Today I put my 69 Ghia on a rotisserie. I mounted it to the engine supports and torsion bar mounts. It spins 360 and is a joy to work with.

I tried to get the lug bolts loose so I could beat on the brake drums to try and free up the stuck emergency brake, no luck getting the bolts loose. |

After another long Summer of my employer trying to suck the very life out of me, the time to go has arrived and crawling under the Ghia to give her a little love is in order. More money and fewer hours at work should help expedite things that have been pending for way too long already. First up is the rear brakes and those damn axle nuts are being stubborn as hell. Having an insufficient breaker bar is making matters worse than they should be, so I have word out to a few locals for a loaner and that shouldn't take very long. It's nice to get back at it. _________________ 1964 Karmann Ghia Coupe

I hate driving mine in bad weather, and I only drove it once in the rain on purpose for a photo shoot. All the other times have been due to being surprised or trapped while already out. The irony is that the car drives so well in bad weather, and I'm warm and comfortable, but I hate knowing what the moisture does to old metal... |

Those axle nuts are always tough. I have 26 inch breaker bar and it was not enough. I want to a local shop and borrowed their big impact wrench, and it took 10 minutes of that, followed by the breaker bar.
You probably already know this, but for the right side of the car, set the brake, put the trans in first, and put a wheel chock behind the rear tire with the car on the ground. This way you can stand on the bar, as long as you have a really beefy bar. For the left side, put the chock in front of the tire.

Mmmm, yummy! The way the reflection is on that photo, it gives the illusion that the back bumper is Frenched.

With the Marine Corps' birthday coming up, I declared today to be Mothers (metal polish) day here. All the bare metal parts are getting the full treatment, including the you know what. The shine on these intakes alone should add at least 5 HP to my Ghia LOL
