So let me start the story about my friend Mirissa and her fathers plans to build a beetle with the excuse of there's plenty of time and we will get to it excuse. Well time ran out Nov. 24 2011. fast forward a few months and i was talking with her father Steve and we came to the conclusion that we would build her a beetle the way she would like it.


we started with this 73 standard sedan

about halfway through the tear down and body work we found this 65 sedan

body work was all done so it wend straight to paint

brought it home and started the finish work on the pan

built a 1681 engine

put the body back on and wired up

took it out for its first ride on april 20th 2013

this past winter was supposed to be interior with a new headliner and carpet but a smoking deal on a fresh 1835 engine slowed the interior progress

A few suggestions.
The generator backing plate needs to be rotated 90* clockwise so the vent in the inside gets air to cool the generator.

I would swap locations of the coil and the voltage regulator.

I would remove the mechanical fuel pump if it's not being used.

I'd loose the serp belt and use the stock V best. You need the belt to slip a bit or you can exploded the fan if you miss a shift.

i thought the backing plate was on wrong i wasnt there when the owner put it together.

why move the coil and vr?

the mech pump s just there as a block off plate until the block off plate comes in

the owner likes the serp belt he doesn't really get on the car the 1835 is kind of a waste but he likes the look more than anything else

How do you like those 15 x 8 wheels? Do they rub? Have you lowered it? I like the look.

so far so good they don't rub and as far as i know its stock height i have never measured it but i haven't lowered it

so we tore the car apart again this winter

put in a ranch pro street trans, 1.3:1 rockers, merged headers, kennedy clutch/pressure plate, vdo gauges
