I'm pretty stoked to get another Beetle. Sold my '67 a few years ago to get a Porsche 911 and was never happy with it. Who'd have known? I sold it and picked up my new gem from an ad here on the Samba!

The car is fairly original with one respray. Clean interior, original "F" engine case, 6V, super solid underneath for an East Coast car, a pile of receipts going back 20 years, runs like a top. Too much fun. Just gotta chase down a few electrical gremlins (horn and a intermittent right rear turn signal) and install a new seal for the sunroof.

Took her on a 20 mile drive today and she was humming along with no complaints! So glad to be back in the air-cooled VW fold!

Sweet ride. Love the color.
I sold my street and drag bugs 10 years ago and bought a Vette. The love affair lasted about a year. Sold the Vette and bought a rebuildable '67 bug. 5 months of work got it back on the road. As soon as that was done I bought a '76 bug with no title that was hit at both ends. It now gets beat on almost every weekend as my new drag car. Why didn't I just keep what I had?

It's a very nice looking bug. X2 on some engine photos.

Funny, I had a 2000 911 for about 4 years. I never really connected with that car and always enjoyed driving my VW's more. So.. The 911 is gone and my VW's remain.

Here's a peek at the motor. Needs a little detailing. Runs so nice!

Is it a 40 HP engine or even the original to the car?

Might solder that terminal to the positive wire on the reg, and heat shrink to avoid charging problem down the road. Hopefully it is not an aluminum terminal, those seem to not work well and of course can not be soldered.

Very nice! Sunroofs for a 66 aren't too common, I guess.

Funny you mention that. The generator light will faintly flicker at idle and will barely glow if you press the horn (which doesnt work...fun tracing this down) or put on the headlights. The PO had a new generator installed earlier this year. I was thinking maybe it wasn't polarized properly, etc. Any more details on soldering the terminal? If it's aluminum can i switch it to copper?

Thanks for the insight Very Happy

Brighter red light with headlight switch turned on is a sign of dirty/corroded/loose connections causing voltage drops. Soldering the internal fuse box connections will help and of course going thru all the wiring connections, cleaning, dielectric greasing, and retightening down should solve that.
Think you probably have the later square headlight switch. The early one that is kind of bell shaped can be taken apart to solder all the internal and external connections.

If gen was not polarized properly, it more than likely would just not work.

That terminal to the regulator is bigger than most of the rest of the wiring connectors, but should not be impossible to find. Recently someone found a good selection thru Amazon.com.

Nice Bug. I would relocate the fuel filter to left side, under chassis near transmission. Not in the engine bay. ENJOY!

That's a great looking '66. I've got a set of trim rings for my wheels but I'm a little hesitant since mounting the newly re-finished stock wheels. I really like the way the trim rings looks and I'll probably put them on eventually.

I plan to repaint my wheels to stock this winter, but I have grown to like the trim rings a little. I wouldn't change a thing on your car. I dig your 66!Very Happy

Thanks Brother. Yep that's Pearl White. My home coming was so long ago I couldn't count that far back. Welcome home yourself.

In Country RSV 1967-1969 - 21 year service started July '64 and ended October 1985. I've been loving it ever since.

I just noticed this, the edges of the red painted rims are showing a red line, just like you would expect it from a full grown Hot Wheels car. It's a cool idea, do you think this was done on purpose?

The wheels were painted to match the body. With out the trim rings it's ugly as all hell. I threw them on to cover the red, but have started to like the look with a red lip. I might just keep it this way! Smile
