Today I finished the last of the type 3 challenges......
I welded the original top of a type 3 dipstick to a flexible bottom end of a junk yard find $1.99
The original type 3 dipstick was a stiff steel rod . Part of the type 3 engine modifications changed the direction of the oil tube . the stiff steel rod wouldn't reach the oil . the NEW flexible end works fine....
I will drain the oil and mark the dipstick as I add the new oil
Thankyou to all of the type three crowd who helped guided and encouraged me as I journeyed into type 3 land without a map .
" with a little help from my Samba friends "
O'Riley auto parts sells a metal plate frame with a plate light in it...I put one on the rear bumper today . _________________ 63 two fold rag

What do you have for an exhaust? If the tips are pointed toward the ground you should be exiting out the bottom and not dumping back into the intake. Sure you may have a tendency to pull some exhaust in sitting at a light, but on the highway it should still be pulling in clean air (unless the bus rear end creates enough of a dead space back there when the air swirls off the top). You could always make some ducts under the car that scooped in air in front of the engine and directed it into that cavity between the fan and rear panel. Problem solved |

New after market dual horns...might have saved my life
I was having a nice quiet day in the garage today ( Dorothy goes to bingo on Saturdays ) . To put the new horns in I took off the drivers side front wheel.
I hooked the new horn up and in the process noticed that with the wheels turned to the far right the only thing stopping them from turning farther was the soft BRAKE LINE !!
I turned the wheels to the left... SAME THING !!
If you have read from the beginning of this thread you may remember that I bought a 66 body on a restored pan .
The adjustments had never been set ..the car had never been on the road
NOW I CHECK EVERYTHING ELSE !!!
Scary thought ; having the brake line pull off _________________ 63 two fold rag

Just found this thread, except I think the whole concept should be a Type 1.5, surely. Love it, and love how the naysayers are crushed too! _________________ .ssS! |

Oh, I enjoyed the "stage 1" build, and am waiting to see the "stage 2" start.
Did you ever work out your front brake hose issue? If not, measure the length of the hose, and see IF you can find a longer one. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Hi bob ; I adjusted the stops on the pitman arm so that the steering stops BEFORE the hose pulls tight....
I know the hoses are correct for a 66 steering set up ;
I will have my mechanic friend Dave check it all when I take it back for the carbs to be installed . _________________ 63 two fold rag

Have you just been looking at the pictures like Stuart ??
Looks like you missed the part where I said this is going to be another of those 1/2 assed projects ;
I have always wanted to restore !/2 a car . To really show BEFORE / AFTER
The passenger front fender has been wire brushed ; osphoed ; primed and painted ...ON THE UNDERSIDE ONLY...
The idea is to be able to show what it takes to do a project like this.....
I have put clear spray paint over rust and dirt and welds and some live Florida Moss
I cut the hood emblem in half so that I could put half on the " finished " side
I only bought two hubcaps for the " finished " side .
The interior is finished on both sides
SOMETHING DIFFERENT
