any tips on how to fix this? My 1967 bug has a noisy wiper motor. Especially when it's cold outside. When I turn it on it makes a humming noise. After it runs for a while the noise goes away. If it's warm outside it doesn't make any noise at all. Maybe it needs some lubrication? Any tips would be appreciated. _________________ "When it rains...

Its called 40 plus year old grease. Rebuild the wiper motor gear box with fresh grease. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Okay. When you say rebuild are you talking about disassembling and adding new grease? Or should I replace the brush, spring, contact etc? _________________ "When it rains...

Sounds like your wiper just needs to be cleaned and lubed.
I would just take the cover off, clean it with some type of electrical cleaner, and lube all the moving parts. Also lube all the pivot points on the wiper shafts.
I would undo the battery cables, mark where all the wires go on the wiper motor, or take a pic with your phone, and take it out of the car and do all the work on a bench. All worth the effort! You'll have a nice, clean, and quiet wiper motor! |

The wiper shafts that go thru the body may need to be replaced as well. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.
