Not a fan of the fake fuchs & the extreme stance, but car looked ace!
Totally quirky. To me the body lines fight each other
Loved the untouched body/dash. Art

I wanted to do someting like that with my 533 car. Keep it like it is and ride it. I wanted to bring it to HO, but this week I sold it instead.

Selling this one gives me the opportunity to start the restoration on the 558 and maybe later the 561.

Id have thought youd keep the round taillight 533? Your other two have the later taillights, right?

Hi Chris,

Yes, the 533 has round taillights and the other two (558, 561) have "fiat" taillights

My plans keeps changing over time. The 533 was the best out of the three and the only car that could be sold easily. By selling this one, I finally have enough funds to start the restoration on one of the other cars.

I choose to restore the 558 first. It will be a lot of work, but I think it can be done.

Regards
Patrick

Since the 508 is out of hiding, I thought it would be time to do an update here.

Normally the updates are done on the Rometsch fanpage on facebook. People who follow facebook have seen pictures of the 508 already two years ago. I inspected the car when I was on my roadtrip though California. By then I decided not to buy it, but I have always kept it a little under the rader in case I wanted to buy it later. Well that's too late now.

Attached an overview of the 32 Lawrences that are confirmed.

Besided there 32 I know of 2 cars that were last seen in the 80th-90th and still in good condition. I believe these two cars are still existing, but for now are not confirmed that they still exist. So, hopefully these two will be found in the near future. So, yes they are still out there to be found!! Any help will be appriciated Smile

In the summer of 1983 I noticed a car sitting outside a shop exposed to the weather. It had surface rust everywhere but the body. I realized it was an aluminum body on a VW chassis, found the Rometsch tag and was intrigued. The owners were strictly into American muscle cars and happily sold me the car for $500.00. I got the motor running and had some fun driving and researching it but really didn't know the rarity of what I had. I had lots of other projects and limited space so I advertised it in Hemmings for $1,500.00 and received a quick offer to buy. The buyers said they were VW and Porsche restorers and drove immediately from Florida to N.J. paid me and towed it away. These pictures show the buyers readying the car for the tow. I wish now I knew the body number and if the car was ever restored and where it is now ...... this car definitely makes my list of the ones I regret letting go !

Hallo Marc,

great to see those pictures. I had not seen pictures of a yellow convertible before.

It would be great if the car is still alive, but I don't think it is one of the knows cars.

Dp you have any more information. (names, more pictures, year you old it, Place were you lived, place of were the buyers lived)

I feel the hurt is coming to track this one

regards
Patrick'

Hello Patrick, The car was a 1958 model and unfortunately I have not found a record of the car's number. I was living in Lakewood NJ USA at the time I sold it in July of 1983. The buyers , a man and woman, appear in the pictures . I believe they told me they were from Florida, USA and had the intention of restoring it. I will post more pictures if I find any.

Hello,

this is my first entry here. Since some weeks the Rometsch Lawrence Coupe (#517) has a new garage.
My question is, where to find the serial numbers. The only place I found is in the front panel. Does anyone know, wheater more places exist?

I'd like to collcect more informations and think, soon more questions are comeing up.

Thanks a lot,
Dirk

Hallo Dirk,

Welcome to the club of Rometsch Lawrence owners.

The bodynumber is stamped on some different places in the body and often also in the inside of the chrome parts.

Contact me in pm for more info

Best

Thank you very much. I try now to find out, which parts are original and which are replaced.
Can someone tell something about the correct plate Illumination?
Would be great.
Thanks in advance,
Dirk
