Rear brake lights ground point

Can someone explain to me how the rear brake lights ground? Is it through the rear light housing as you tighten it to the body or is it the brown wires that ground to the male studs in the corners of the engine compartment?

Brown wires that connect to the studs. Brown wires are ground.

Definitely the studs in the engine compartment, I had similar problems, cleaned/sanded the studs really ell, no more problems.
