I want to fix the cable that comes from the defrost/heater lever to the splitter tube under the rear seat. It looks like it was cut at some time because it barely sticks out of the tube when the lever is down. When I pull he lever up it will move all the way up the tube so I can't put the adapter on for the flap control.
The only cables I seam to find are the ones for the lever on the other side (Temp) that controls the flaps on the heater boxes.
Anyone know the part number or where to get one?

Part number for the cable itself is 181711713 but good luck finding one in this country. Maybe the Thing Shop has one laying around in some dusty bin. Other options are to make one yourself out of stainless steel wire or modifying a Beetle one (P/N 133711717). If you go the modify route, let us know how it works out.
Looks like Bughaus and Airparts has the Beetle cable. Google the part number
The cable clamps (PN N0177410) are actually made from European Style terminal strips that you can find at Radio Shack.

I ordered the cable for a beetle since the other part is nowhere to be found around here. The good thing I hope is that since its way longer I probably can connect it with out the connector shown above.
I'll post a picture when I get it done |

There is a short wire that comes on the flap and sticks out about 2 in. that has some bends that will be hard to make. That is why you need the connector. A beetle cable is longer than needed so you will be able to cut to fit. |

Well I finally got around to fixing the heater controls. I did buy the cable for a beetle and simply cut it down. The connectors worked like a charm for attaching the cable to the flap. I used the extra part of the cable I cut off to make the flap attachments. I left the cable a little long so the connector clamps down on both just for added grip. These are under the rear seat so they will never be seen anyway.

Glad I ran across this thread. I'm doing the same thing to my 74 Super Beetle. Thanks for posting all the great photos. I was thinking of using 3/8 brake line for mine. How did the 1/4" work? _________________ shakers73
